ELKHORN -- Parties are back in court for the trial of a Burlington man accused of killing his wife 12 years ago.
David Brossard, 40, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for allegedly killing his wife, Dawn Brossard. Dawn Brossard disappeared in October 1997, and her body was found in Geneva Lake in 2003. David Brossard was charged with the crime in September 2008. The case is being tried in Walworth County.
Jury selection began Monday, and continues today. This morning, attorneys and the judge questioned potential jurors individually about a case-related conversation some of them reportedly had while in the courtroom Monday.

It appears a juror began talking about reading news articles about the case, and others joined in the conversation.
At least one of them may have given an opinion about what they believed might have happened during the commission of the alleged crime.

Are potential jurors given instructions by the judge before the selection process begins? It would appear that these individuals will not be good candidates for the jury. If they weren't given instructions, maybe they just don't want to serve on the jury. If they were given instructions, they may have violated procedure and may be subject to a penalty. In either case, justice will be better served without them.
