Rep. Ryan not running for governor
Rep. Paul Ryan, R-1st District, will not run for governor next year, according to a statement from his campaign office Monday. The statement was released in the wake of news media speculation that Ryan would be interested in the office after Gov. Jim Doyle's announcement that he would not run for re-election. Following is the text of Ryan's statement:
“Governor Doyle has spent his career serving others through elected office. He has sacrificed much time away from his family and personal pursuits as a result and I wish him the best of success in whatever path he follows in the future. As far as my own plans are concerned, I will be asking my employers, the residents of Wisconsin’s First Congressional District, to rehire me as their Congressman in 2010. Consequently, I have no plans to run for Governor of the State of Wisconsin next year.”

Anyone who thinks Paul Ryan is too young to run for President should review the history of our current President. I live and work in Chicago and prior to Obama's speach at the 2004 Democratic Convention I had never heard of him and I am immersed in politics here!! He was a state senator from the South Side of chicago, and spent 18 months as a US Senator, where upon his election to the US Senate, he immediately started positioning himself to run for president.
Mr. Obama did what any good pol does, he realized the environment was right for him to run and he did--and we all know the results.
Paul Ryan is exactly what this country needs, someone who understands the plight of the working man and woman, someone who understands what its like to be from the Rust Belt and not someone who lives in an ivory tower up on Beacon Hill and simply acts like he 'feels your pain' while giving M.A. universal health care that is bankrupting the state! (Can you say Mr. Romney)
I think if Paul Ryan ran for President and ran on the platform of bringing jobs back home and stopping outsourcing, combined with his background from Janesville, he would be welcomed news for the base of our party and would be the Democrats WORST nightmare.
I am starting the "Draft Paul Ryan 2012" movement, I would love to have some support and for those nay-sayers who think I am crazy or who want to poo-poo it as some wild eyed long shot....I am sure there were people just like you in 1776 who thought our founders were NUTS when we declared our independence from Britian, so you can save your catty insults for the campaign trail.
ITs time we take our country back and realize that Washington exists to serve the people, NOT the other way around.
Join the "Draft Paul Ryan 2012" movement.

Maybe you could also explain to my why Ford is going to come out on top of this deal and hasn't suffered like GM has....hmmmmm. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see any company fail, but to sit here and put the blame on Ryan, is very uneducated and simply false.

jowner - Do you want me to post about 30 other articles that state the same thing from all other sources? That was just one of them. Wow, it's scary how many people are in GM denial. It's really sad.

Hey SPARK, it is interesting that you are getting your facts from (dailyfinance), a blog that is run by Brad Hill, the republican minority whip from Mass. Good Try

Nowhere, in any article, can I find one of the reasons GM failed was because of Paul Ryan. Shocking.
-
Also, I've said this multiple times before, but if gas was the problem, can you explain to me why when the prices were the highest, the number one selling vehicle in the U.S. was the Ford F150 truck and number one for GM was there Silverado pickup? Nobody has been able to argue that.

jowner - You have to be kidding me and everyone else on this planet with that post. You are in major denial if you believe that and there is absolutely no truth to that. You should really do some research before you post especially if you believe gas is why GM is gone.
-
I can list you multiple facts to prove your statement wrong, but I don't feel like typing them again because this has been discussed a million times. Blaming Ryan for GM's horrible management skills is an absolute joke.

Are you kidding me. Ryan as governor. He is the reason that the Janesville GM plant no longer exists. He and his Republican buddies deregulated the commodities market in 2002 allowing the gas prices to go through the ceiling. He is on the payroll of pharmicies and is only looking out for himself. He has never represented the people who elected him.

Think about the mess the state is currently in with the budget. The next governor has a huge job to get the state's finances back into shape. This crash has been many years in the making and it will not be a quick fix. I think the next gov will be a single term.
Why would Ryan waste his political capital in running for Governor? If he wins, he has an almost impossible job and doesn't gain much. If he loses, he is out of the public eye, which is near death for a political career. I think his best bet is to hold off on changing seats until either Kohl's seat is up (which will be a bit of a gamble) or wait another 5-10 years or so and then go for governor. Either way, I think he is too young and still unknown nationwide to make a serious run for president in 2012. A good term or two as gov or senator will give him a better chance at president.
When running for president, you only get one real chance. Unless you leave early in the primary season, you will get too beat up to be a viable candidate in a second run. Political campaigns now are too cut-throat. They used to be about public dialogue and ideas and bettering the country, now it is just bash your opponent more than they bash you. Sad really.

Ryan serving as the governor of this state would be a waste of awesome resources. Ryan needs to represent us at the federal level. He is going to become a driving force to reckon with in the future. You watch.

Congress people and mayors do not make good governors - and county executives from Dane and Milwaukee have too much baggage and do not connect with working people from here in Kenosha or my ole hometown in Rock County.
Mark Neumann may surprise some people.

for all the years that Kohl has been in office has his name ever been on any important legislation? I think that Ryan is well suited for his position at the next election.
