From the WCLO newsroom:

Despite the economy, despite unemployment, and despite the rain, Janesville's Relay for Life event August 7 brought in more than $62,000 with more donations on the way.

Adam Layne, American Cancer Society community relations, says the projected outcome was $59,000. He says the American Cancer Society is still receiving Relay for Life donations through the end of the month. Layne credits active Relay for Life teams with the successful fund raising. He says teams have also secured matching donations from other organizations or their employers.

Closing ceremonies were rained out, but a belated ceremony is expected later this month.
