The Brewers shook up their team on Wednesday by optioning J.J. Hardy to the Minors, designating Bill Hall for assignment and dismissing pitching coach Bill Castro.

Shortstop prospect Alcides Escobar and outfielder Jason Bourgeois were promoted from Triple-A Nashville and Castro was replaced on an interim basis with former Major League pitcher Chris Bosio.

Hardy, an All-Star shortstop in 2007 who has struggled to a .229 average this season and was the subject of trade rumors before the July 31 non-waiver deadline, was sent to Triple-A Nashville. Escobar, who played in the 2009 All-Star Futures Game and Triple-A All-Star Game, was batting .298 with four homers, 34 RBIs and 42 steals in 109 games with the Sounds.

Castro served as bullpen coach from 1992-2008 before being named pitching coach on Nov. 7, 2008. The Brewers' pitching staff ranks 27th in the Major Leagues with a 4.84 ERA, allowing a Major League-leading 151 home runs in 112 games.

Bosio has been a Triple-A pitching coach the past two seasons, last year with the Reds organization, and fulfilled that role in the Majors in 2003 for Tampa Bay. Bosio, 46, was 94-93 with a 3.96 ERA in 309 games, pitching for Milwaukee (1986-92) and Seattle (1993-96) during his 11 seasons.

I will miss JJ! I am not disappointed to see Hall go tho. Shake it up and maybe they can get back into the swing of things!(pun intended!)

Billy was looking like he was going to come around though. JJ has struggled all year. I would like to see JJ back at some point also.

I hope Hardy makes it back. He had been a good hitter in seasons past and always above average on defense. It will be nice to see if Escobar can make the transition to the major leagues. Since the Brewers aren't going anywhere this year, this makes sense. Anyone want to buy my Cubs/ Brewers tickets for late September now?!

Now all the Brewers have to do is to teach Lopez to bend over to pick up a ground ball.

How about his (Hypothetical) scenario:
Manager to entire team:
"OK guys, fron this day forward we're going to pay your contract based on the teams winning percentage..."
I would think at that point the players would try harder...

While each of these moves are long overdue, making them at this point is comparable to using a band-aid to treat a gunshot wound. My guess is that the owner ordered Doug Melvin to make changes or he would.

Wow, fantastic. Only about a month and a half too late though.
