Not that Illinois drivers didn't already suspect it, but a recent report suggests Wisconsin state troopers are more likely to be tougher on speeders from Illinois than those from Wisconsin. STORY

Hell I was cruising along at 80 in the right lane when a pair of IL plated SUV's blasted past me at over 100 (closer to 110). First one looked like a Porsche Cayenne. 2nd one was a BMW X5 (seen the propeller badge).

I wish more Ill drivers would zoom past me, instead they sit in the passing lane driving under 70 mph and holding everyone up. I don't get it. I wish someone who does this could explain why.....

I think there's an Illinois law that says: "If a Wisconsin car passes you, you lose 3pts. and your license for a month." That's why you rarely see a Cheesehead pass an Illinois vehicle.

More times than not the license plate of the car that gets pulled over on 90 has a WI plate, at least that's what I observe.

This couldn't be true in Janesville. The troopers seem like they never leave town.

I have to chuckle at those of you that set your cruise at 70 and then comment about people whizzing by you. I've been driving the interstate to Madison for 15 yrs and like trublubrewcrew, I'm passing most cars. Truth be told about FAST drivers, about the only people that pass me are young ladies yapping on their cell phones. And while I'm at it, if you are not passing, will you PLEASE get in the right lane?!?

I say good for them...they don't pay a toll to destroy our interstates, they can pay fines for driving like idiots on them...

Sunday I was on I-90 and was going 70 opps five over but the Illinois plates were passing me like I was strapped to a pole! And two of them didn't know how to stay in there own lane. But us Wi people are more targeted when we go down there so it's not a win win!

Sorry, I misstated – of course AK and HI have out-of-state drivers, but very few out-of-state plates on the roads.

This is nothing unique to Wisconsin. In every state (except maybe AK and HI, which tend not to have out-of-state drivers), the troopers target the out-of-state plates. If two cars are driving through a speed trap at 15mph over the limit, one in-state and one out-, guess which gets stopped? If you’d like to see this taken to a new level, take your northern plates down south and go cruising in AL or GA. There’s a reason why they had those “you in a heap of trouble now, boy” commercials way back when!

There is good and bad about drivers anywhere. Please remember, though, they are coming into Wisconsin and spending their money locally. Nobody complains about that!!! I drive the interstate daily and I pass most Wisconsin drivers and I'm from Wisconsin. Wisconsin drivers usually drive slower than most state's drivers. So if you don't want Illinois people's discretionary income, keep the negative comments going.

AMEN! I have to drive the interstate on a daily basis, and I set my cruise control anywhere between 72 and 76, and I'm CONSTANTLY getting passed by Illinois drivers who are going at least 80-85 mph. It's ridiculous! I've also noticed that they are notorious for SLAMMING on their brakes when they see a State Trooper and almost causing major accidents. It's about time the crack down started!

drive down the interstate, look at the license plate of the person who flys by you....illinois plate 98% of the time.....they dont like that our law enforcement is busting their law breaking, tell em to go to iowa or missouri for weekend getaways, or slow down in wisconsin

If Illinois drivers drive faster, they'll get ticketed more, end of story.

From the JS article "About 20% of Illinois drivers who were ticketed were driving at least 21 mph over the speed limit, compared with about 8% of Wisconsin drivers who were ticketed for driving those extreme speeds."
.
There's your answer.

Comparing Illinois drivers to Wisconsin drivers is like comparing apples to oranges.
