Aqua Jays finish third at nationals
The Rock Aqua Jays finished in third place at the 2009 Division I National Water Ski Show Championships in Loves Park, Ill. this past weekend.
The Mad City Ski Team of Madison won with 2,131 points, followed by Wonder Lake of Wonder Lake, Ill., with 1,854 points; and Rock Aqua Jays of Janesville, 1,800.
The Rock Aqua Jays scored the highest in barefoot.
The third-place finish was good considering the wind and choppy water conditions, club president Joel Shapiro said.

I think the RAJ should be happy with their third place and not blame the conditions or make excuses. Considering the wind and choppy water Madison and Wonder Lake were able to score more points and out perform your club Joel. I believe the Jays did their best and should be proud of their accomplishment The RAJ are still one of the best clubs at any National Tournament. Congratulations on 3rd place.

I was able to make it to Rockford to watch RAJ performance, and as usual, they put on a real class act! They always push the envelope with difficult acts and adding sheer numbers of skiers to the water - adding to the difficulty. The show was awesome - great job Aqua Jays!

We were not able to attend the tournament in person, but we watched the RAJ's on the tournament's webcast. The wind and choppy waters made it difficult for some of the acts, but no one has anything to be regretful about. The RAJ ski team put on a well-done, entertaining show. As localmatters said, you've had some hard knocks the last couple of years, but you've proven how resiliant your organization can be. Well done.
Anyone know where Nationals is going to be next year?

Well done Aqua Jays. The past few years have been difficult on your organization but I feel your organizations priorities have been properly realigned.
