CHIPPEWA FALLS —A Boyd man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while apparently lying in the middle of a highway.

The Chippewa County sheriff's department says 28-year-old Aaron Bourget died early Sunday after the accident on Highway G near Chippewa Falls.

The department says a passerby saw Bourget lying in the highway about 3:30 a.m., then traveled a short distance to get better cell reception and call 911. But a vehicle struck Bourget before the passerby could return.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Bourget was arrested at the scene on charges including drunken driving. The accident is still under investigation.
