UPDATE: 250 Alliant customers temporarily without power
JANESVILLE—Power was restored to more than 250 Alliant Energy customers Friday morning after an equipment failure at the Harmony Town Hall Road and Highway 14 substation, said Steve Schultz, communications program manager.
The outage occurred at 9:02 a.m., Schultz said, and power was restored 30 minutes later.
Alliant crews were on scene, at the substation, in Harmony Township, shortly after the outage was reported, he said.
At about the same time, a flash and bang was reported at Alliant’s substation on Delavan Drive across the street from the General Motors plant.
No customers were affected since that circuit only feeds the closed GM plant, Schultz said.
Schultz believes the outages were not related because of the distance—about 5 miles—between the two substations.
“But I wouldn’t rule anything out,” he said.

I remember once a long time ago when the power went out at work. A couple hours later it was fixed and the workers told us the outage was caused by a hawk's dinner. It caught a snake and got too close to the line while flying. Apparently the snake's body was hanging down and crossed a couple wires.

Yeah, when the poop hit the fan out here (Harmony) I was wondering what the hay-was up? Their are a lot of hatchlings and baby varmits just heading out into the unknown, my guess is that it is something of that nature/ after all in a look back on these events, its always some animal that got zapped. A word to the wise? If your climbing near a transformer/ keep your tail in tight.
