MADISON—Wisconsin will get nearly $320,000 in federal stimulus dollars to preserve arts jobs in the state.

The money will be divided among 18 arts organizations. Gov. Jim Doyle’s office says it will help cover artistic directors, gallery curators, volunteer coordinators, artists and education directors.

A Wisconsin Arts Board study from 2007 says the state’s nonprofit arts industry generates about $418 million in economic activity annually, including 15,000 jobs.

The point here is that the stimulus is money coming into the economy TODAY, when nobody is spending. If it isn't deficit spending, it doesn't help.
.
Whether it's roads or the arts, the point is to circulate the money in many sectors of the economy.

Where are the stimulus dollars for animal shelters? People keep getting kittens and puppies for their kids with names like "Cody" and "Sloan" or "Madison", and then they throw the animals out when the novelty wears off, or their circle of friends or what they see on television changes their minds. Give me a break. Just because your an anal retentive new parent doesn't make you a big star. I could care less how wealthy you are.

".....in federal stimulus dollars to PRESERVE ARTS JOBS in the state."....not to mention all the JOBS the arts in turn generate through related industries such as material providers, custodial, hospitality (hotels, restaurants, bars), transportation, utilities, technology (lighting, computers, etc.), tourism, and much, much more. You see the arts every day on your cereal box, in your car design, on and in the CD you listen to, in the architecture of where you work, in the commercial and the TV program you watch, in the clothing you wear, on the label design and shape of your water bottle, in the screen of your cell phone,...the list is endless. The arts are far more than just oil paintings on a wall. These funds will most likely be spent and invested far more wisely than some stimulus funds because of the already very limited arts budgets. The ARTS ARE BUSINESS just as any other endeavor and deserve far more support than most people have the vision to see or understand for the arts enrich and enliven every moment of your day.

I guess the age old saying of "money don't grow on trees" is no longer a legitimate excuse. It has it's own tree farm at the White House.

Did you grumblers even read the third paragraph. If the arts aren't a worthy subject for you, how about the $418 million in economic activity generated by some of the people whose jobs this will save? How is this unimportant to you?

Don't we have more important things to spend money on right now?
