WAUSAU — A Wisconsin jury has found a father guilty of killing his daughter by praying instead of getting her medical care.

Forty-seven-year-old Dale Neumann was charged with second-degree reckless homicide in the March 2003 death of his 11-year-old daughter, Madeline, from undiagnosed diabetes. Prosecutors say he should have rushed the girl to a hospital because she couldn’t walk, talk, eat or speak.

Neumann testified during his trial that he expected God to heal his daughter and didn’t believe she would die.

He has described himself as a born-again Christian who once studied to be a Pentecostal minister.

Neumann’s wife, Leilani, was convicted on the same charge in the spring and is scheduled for sentencing Oct. 6. Both face up to 25 years in prison.

Religion is ignorant superstition, responsible for much more suffering and death than this one poor girl. Christians will read the following passages and come up with all sorts of reasons why the little girl wasn't cured - ignoring the obvious one - they are worshiping a non-existant figment of thier imagination.
.
John 14 -
12Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
Mark16:
17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
.
18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Can anyone imagine the trust that the little girl put in her parents to do the right thing? She had absolutley no chance. One can only hope that even ONE of these incredibly stupid religious zealots will think twice about doing this to one of their own. The world is not still considered flat people!

Imagine if everyone actually decided to think for themselves - what a world we would live in.

But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one"

If I pray that they rot forever in prison will that cancel out joyinjanesville's pray for a short sentence? Maybe we should just both not pray and move on in our life and let the Judge decide. GO JUDGE! You're so much like Jeba, our lord and savior.

This must be "God's plan" for this guy and I hope that God's plan for this guy in jail has a man named Bubba involved.

addition: I never meant to make light of the loss of this young girl. She was a precious child of God. She should not have died as she did. I do also wonder how a mother and father could stand by and watch their child suffer to the extent it was reported. This whole story is sad.

He got what he deserved. He let his daughter die on purpose. In my opinion, the bible is a guide on how to live a good life, not a step by step instruction manual. One still needs to think for themselves and draw their own conclusion.

Life sentences are reserved for crimes such as intentional murder.

I think they should both get life sentences! Who in their right mind would stand by and watch their own child die??? I believe in God also but not to this extent! That poor baby had a whole wonderful life ahead of her and her "born again Christian parents" took that from her. What a crying shame. I am in tears myself right now.

If a guy kills someone and says that "God told him to", then he is just another wacko. But something like this happens and you want to feel sorry for these people? Being a self-proclaimed born-again Christian doesn't make these clowns any less the murderers that they are. I too believe in God and his divine wisdom. Having said that, I pray that He will guide the judge to give these turds the maximum sentence.

I am a born again Christian and I am confused and saddened by this ruling. I understand his right to believe in healing and God's miraculous touch in our lives. I do believe. But I also know when I need medical attention, that I make an appointment and God gives my doctors and nurses divine wisdom for my care and well being. I am sure there is more to the story than what we have heard through the media. I pray the sentences for the mother and father are not long. I beleive they have another child to care for. I pray that the courts/judge will be merciful, as God is mercy. I'll continue to pray for this family.
