JANESVILLE -- The man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend in the city's Fourth Ward neighborhood will have a preliminary hearing next month.

Kyle E. Hicke, 37, of 108 Forest Lake Drive, Milton, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm by a felon and attempting to flee or elude an officer in the April 22 death of Erica M. Ostenson, 25, of 412 1/2 S. Academy St., Janesville.

Hicke appeared in Rock County Court this afternoon with his defense attorney, Kelly Mattingly.

Hicke was ordered to have no contact with Ostenson's family members.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. May 27 for his preliminary hearing.

Hicke remains in the Rock County Jail on $1 million cash bail.

If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

Have you seen his record? I dont think time to think will affect him much. Id like to see what his answer would be when asked if he could do it all over again would he?

chainsawchuckie, not sure that would do much for him. let him get the book thrown at him to sit, think, and whatever else he can't do. Let those guys on the other side of the bars take care of him.

I think it's really nice that he gets a month to chill out, sober up, and face reality. I doubt he'll see freedom again any time soon.

Whatever punishment he gets will not be good enough. Erica was a kind woman and a friend. I hope the best for her son...
