Wisconsin inland fishing season opens Saturday
MADISON — Wisconsin's inland fishing season opens Saturday, and the state Department of Natural Resources says it expects to sell 1.4 million fishing licenses this year.
Resident licenses cost $20 each.
The governor's annual fishing opener will be held on the Chippewa Flowage.
The DNR says that because spring has been slow to come to northern Wisconsin, it's likely that walleye and northern pike will still be spawning and be in more shallow waters during the opener.
DNR Secretary Matt Frank says fishing is a great and inexpensive way for people to relax and recharge their batteries during the recession.
The most recent state survey says anglers caught 88 million fish in Wisconsin waters in 2006.

I've got to ask, where is there good fishing in Janesville? We visited Kiwanis Pond, but there we're no bites for us. We visited Traxler and fished on the river side (we were told you may only fish in the lagoon if you have a child) and it was very rocky--but is the fishing ok there? What about the lagoon? It wouldn't seem like there would be that great of fishing.
Other ideas and suggestions? We fish for fun and are fans of catch and release (neither of us is going to clean a fish)...
