Lambeau among sites considered for FIFA World Cup
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Lambeau Field is among dozens of sites being considered to host the FIFA World Cup match.
The USA Bid Committee made the announcement Thursday. Fifty-eight venues are interested or under consideration in 49 metropolitan markets around the country to host in 2018 or 2022.
The committee's executive director David Downs says they will contact each site to make sure the stadium meets FIFA criteria.
The U.S. used nine stadiums to host the FIFA World Cup in 1994. Today's field of 32 nations competes in 64 matches.

One big problem is that football fields are considerably smaller than soccer fields. Maybe there is enough room along the sidelines and endzones to accommodate the larger field. I can't remember if Lambeau is slightly crowned like most football fields because that presents problems for soccer matches as well.

It would be kinda cool, but yes, it will never happen. FIFA wants all stadiums to be all seats be individual instead of bleachers (the USA was given a pass in 1994). That and the stadium would have to be temporarily renovated to increase the width of the field. The playing field for football is 53 yards and for soccer it is supposed to be 75 yards. (And that doesn't include the needed extra space on the sidelines.) Finally, the Fox Valley doesn't have enough hotel rooms. It is fine for the Packers since the vast majority of people can daily commute to the games.
.
Odds are that the USA would pick 12 stadiums like what Germany had in 2006. My picks would be: Gillette Stadium (Boston), New Meadowlands Stadium (New York), Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia), FedEx Field/New Stadium (Washington, DC), Lucas Oil Stadium (Indianapolis), Soldier Field (Chicago), Reliant Stadium (Houston), New Cowboys Stadium (Dallas), University of Phoenix Stadium (Phoenix), Quest Field (Seattle), New 49ers Stadium (San Francisco), and new LA Stadium (Los Angeles). The retractable roof stadiums would be a big plus with the heat and humidity.
