JANESVILLE -- Dave Moore, acting Janesville police chief, will be the city's next top cop.

The Janesville Police and Fire Commission this afternoon asked Moore to be the city's police chief.

Moore had been the deputy police chief until becoming acting chief after Neil Mahan retired.

He has been promoted through the ranks of the police department since 1977.

Three other finalists interviewed for the job this week.

They were:

-- Thomas J. Christensen, deputy police chief, Racine.

-- Michael D. Kostecki, former police chief, McHenry, Ill.

-- Bradford L. Woods, former police commander, Chicago.

Congratulations Chief Moore! You paid your dues, got the experience, got the education, and treated people with dignity and respect. You also have your ego in check. I know you will serve Janesville well and help to keep this city a great place to live. I wish you all the luck, and the good health, and the success in the world!

Just because someone is a good person doesn't mean their a good leader! If you don't work there don't say he will be a great chief because the fact is you don't know!
