Kyle E. Hicke, suspect in the murder of Erica M. Ostenson, has been arrested on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide, according to a news release from the Janesville Police Department.

Hicke, 37, Milton, is accused of shooting Ostenson, 25, Janesville, outside her home and leading police on a high-speed chase to Beloit and back to Janesville.

Police also will recommend charges of possession of firearm by a felon and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.

He remains in Rock County Jail, and an initial court appearance has yet to be set. No additional arrests are anticipated, the release said.

I like some of the comments here insofar as they get at what a bully these abusers are. What strength it took for Erica to stand up to him!

This man should die. Why do people kill other people? If he was going to kill somebody why not himself? It would have saved alot of heartache and pain for this poor girl's family. He made his decision to take another life and he should forfit his just as easily! But don't worry this man will "GET HIS"!

HMMM Makes me think we should go back to the days of the old west. Can we say lynch mob???? Wait, sorry, that would be too good for this man... Maybe we should just let the victims family deal with it. My heart goes out to them and I hope for once justice will be swift.

CAMPER, I got your sarcasm. I wish some would not be so quick to be on the defense. CAMPER was making a 'funny' about the procedures of the court. Caught in the act, but still has the right to be called only a suspect. ((sigh)) Privilege to some, curse to others, the American way.

I think they should let him go.
Yep, let him go.
In a very out of the way place.
On a lonely country road.
Very quiet.
No one around.
But beforehand, let everyone know when this will happen.
Then push him out of the car so he's by himself.
Lets see whom he can give the finger to then...

Happycamper - true, he is a "suspect", but one who fled the scene of the crime, led a high-speed chase, had motive and opportunity, and has all but publicly confessed. So yes - "suspect" until convicted, but still a complete idiot who deserves what he gets.

I think we need the death penalty for cases like this why should he get to live his life in prison and have our tax money pay for it and poor Damom has to live his life without his mother.

it is so sad everyday there is a new story about a child/adult being killed by a loved one. It is no longer random acts of violence it is now in the average home where no one would even suspect something like this would happen. It is sad and also very scary.

Domestic abuse!! the words I've heard from the courts where be per paired he could walk.. as a victim even the papers to keep them away never stops the abuser because the restraining orders are not put on the abusers the right way!! or there is very little wording wrote on them so the police don't do much they seem to give the abuser to many chances and then the victims end up harmed!!
as a victim I feel there should be relocation funds for the victims and lots of help for a victim so this stuff stops or the judges should put the abuser in PRISON when they abuse the first time..anyway My Heart Goes out to the Family of Erica and her son!!! sending angels~ to Guard you for ever and always~~

Domestic abuse has always been a probably. It is coming out into the public's knowledge with more people reporting it.

I'd like to hear more about what we're doing about domestic abuse. I'd also be interested if domestic abuse is on the rise in our area since it typically is in hard times. This is so sad.

Icequeen, my thoughts and prayers are with your family. It is unfortunate and deeply sad that Erica had to lose her life, but I hope and pray that this will make a change, mostly in Kyle's life by putting him away forever, but also to others who may be in a bad spot

Kyle is one of my ex's he was crazy back in the early 90's and I can see that nothing has changed. I thank my lucky stars that I was not hurt by this man. I am glad that he will never hurt another person again. He's going away for a long time.
