MONROE, Wis. (AP) — All Monroe schools closed Friday because of vandalism at the high school.

Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley says vandals used some sort of projectile to break glass on seven doors on one side of the building.

Kelley says another object, possible a baseball bat, was used to break windows on the other side of the building.

He says the vandalism happened sometime Thursday overnight.

The chief says the vandalism may rise to the level on felony criminal damage.

I would rather see classes cancelled than something happen. I have family that goes to this school!

Thank you for clarifying more reason behind cancelling classes in Monroe. It seemed silly to cancel just for vandalism. So, I am glad the school district had the safety and well-being of students, educators, and other staff on the forefront!

Today, there is just too much violence in the schools at any level!

They closed the schools because of the "other" threats that have recently occurred at the Monroe high school and middle school. Bomb threats of some kind were written on the bathroom walls. That in conjunction with the windows being "shot" out at the High School, prompted administrators to cancel classes for the safety of the children. Seems reasonable to me.

Why are you talking about banks in the janesville high schools on this story? One of the problems here is that people tend to have severe topic drift. A little self moderation would be nice.

Don't cry for the kids-- it may bring out the best in that they 'tattle' and then see who gets the last laugh! Peer pressure works in so many ways!

The kids may enjoy it now but they may have to make the day up in June!

I like Pat's idea. Teach the kids to have appreciation and ownership of where they spend a good chunk of the day. What's wrong with that... since schools are in the teaching business!

Blackhawk Community Credit Union is planning on opening branches in Craig and Parker. The theory is to teach the youth of today about business, finances and banking.

ihavealife... I don't know about Craig, but Parker does have a spot for a credit union. I don't remember if it's Blackhawk or Parker credit union though.

I remember when some kids tried to cut open the office safe in the wee hours of the night at my high school. But, since they were using a welding torch(?), not a cutting torch they didn't get into the safe and caused a lot of smoke damage. School was off for us, but all the other schools were open. I don't get closing all the schools, either. Maybe in future news releases we'll learn why.

Well I was listening to a news story this morning in the car that said there were also bomb threats in recent days and they were afraid they were related to the vandalism. So they decided to close all the schools. I have a niece who goes there and 2 nephews i bet they are liking a day off with this weather today!!!

Why reward the idiots by closing all schools? It sounds like a knee-jerk reaction.

I agree Sarah. It seems to send the message that if you want a Friday off, break some windows at one school and everyone gets a long weekend.
