No natural gas leaks were detected after Janesville firefighters responded to a report of a possible natural gas smell inside Chase bank, 100 W. Milwaukee St., this morning, Capt. Jim Dennis said.

The call came in at 10:32 a.m. after people inside the bank smelled natural gas. Evacuation was in progress when responders arrived.

The smell turned out to be a maintenance issue, Dennis said.

"We checked it and it didn't come up with any natural gas--nothing registered on our meters as dangerours, and the same with Alliant (Energy)," he said.

Well, something else that can cause a similar smell is a blocked sewer vent.
