JANESVILLE -- The man accused of hiring a hit man to kill a Janesville City Council member and his girlfriend was sentenced to prison this afternoon in Rock County Court.

Joseph R. Chrislaw Sr., 46, of 733 Kellogg Ave., No. 3, Janesville, was sent to prison for three years and six months. His prison time will be followed by five years of extended supervision.

Chrislaw is accused of trying to hire a man from the Hells Angels motorcycle gang to kill his estranged wife, Inna M. Cheremisina, 34, and council member Yuri Rashkin, according to the criminal complaint.

He previously pleaded guilty to two charges of soliciting first-degree intentional homicide.

So if I understand correctly, he was eligible for 12 years total, right? 6 for each count?

3.75 seems pretty minimal considering. Maybe our judges need to start leaning harder to the higher side instead of to the lower side. And stop taking the recommendations of the lovely DA's.

Besides building jails and supervising inmates could create several hundred jobs for rock county so let's lock them up. cripes...

He didn't actually kill anyone. Solicitation is a class H felony with a maximum sentence of six years.

The judicial system is not upholding justice in Rock County. What is the reprimand for killing a person here? For a child, what was it? 5 years? And for two grown adults? 1.75 years for one person (Crislaw is getting 3.5 years for hiring a person to kill 2 people)? Framed or not, this is sad!

B'moon says he was framed.

It was a very thorough framing job because it included his plea of 'guilty'.

Only 3 1/2 years for trying to buy the murder of 2 people? It looks like an Assassination Bureau franchise could do well here in Janesville since there is such a tendency for leniency in the murder for hire business and as such, little deterrence.
.
Maybe Mr. Chrislaw will be released early due to the Governor's efforts to save money by proposing reduced prison populations since his sentence suggests that his crime is so petty.
