Bear on prowl in Juneau County
MAUSTON -- Juneau County authorities are warning residents about a black bear in the area that doesn’t appear to be very bashful.
A Germantown Township resident called 911 on Saturday night to report a black bear eating seeds from a bird feeder in the yard. That’s about seven miles from Mauston.
A Juneau County sheriff’s deputy reported that "the bear was not scared of people and did not leave the area when people were present, which is not normal behavior for a black bear."
Authorities are advising residents in the area near Castle Rock County Park to keep garbage cans and any other food sources indoors. They also say not to approach what they are calling a "potential problem bear."

DogWalker: "Ignorant Hunter" is an oxymoron. The ignorant ones are those who oppose hunting but don't know why. Without hunters, we'd all have bears in our birdfeeders and deer mangled into the grills of our cars. Do you have any idea how much money hunters from WI and other states generate for this great state? I love animals, but I also appreciate the value in hunting and environmental conservation.

All of my relatives live in the U.P. They have bears eating out of the gardens and bird feeders in their yards all the time during the warmer months. Not too unusual.

DOGWALKER, you have to have a license to shoot bear in Wisconsin, and they are very hard to get. But, if the bear is shot in self preservation, we have to believe that there was a reason. Don't put too much worry in it. There are consequences for shooting a bear without a license and most people who like to hunt aren't going to risk it. At least that is how I see it.

Bear that is not bashful...that was cute! Bears do love those bird feeders. Poor thing, he probably just woke up from a long nap and is just hungry. I am sure all will be fine. Just use common sense. It isn't smart to approach any wild animal especially one that is twice our size and strength.

I'm pretty sure Jellystone is less than an hour north of there. Has anyone called the ranger to check on Yogi and Boo Boo?
