westside,
Chez gazettefan opens when the gates are opened.
Consider enrolling in the Clogged Artery Competition. Anyone who eats 10 of my big giant creampuffs in less than 15 minutes gets those creampuffs without charge and a t-shirt that says: "I'm The King (or Queen) of Clogged Arteries.
Trained medical personnel will be on site with a state-of-the-art defibrillator. More severe cases will be promptly med-evaced to Holy Christ Hospital.
Enjoy the fair.

Close your eyes and picture the worst female karaoke singer you've ever heard...shallow voiced, no range, mistaking "breathy" for talent and you've got Friday's headliner. Julianne Hough is not worth the gasoline to bus her in.
The others...Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers and Lover Boy...they'll do their hits so it'll be well worth the admission price. Not so sure of the guy channeling Johnny Cash. If he can do "Cocaine Blues", then I am SO there!

*Offer good only on day of original purchase and with original stick.

Dr. Hook could probably use some work.
But please, no Doobie Brothers, especially the guy who sings like Aunt Bee.

Hey cave dwellers...I understand some of you may still yet be waiting for your government coupons to buy your digital converters but maybe one of your neighbors could help you out and let you watch their televisions-tune into CMT. (Now I understand a digital converter alone won't let you access CMT but just go with it, ok?) Julianne Hough and Luke Bryan are two up-and-coming country artists that you have probably have heard on the radio but just don't realize it. Both have a couple of hits and I have to believe that the rest of their albums are good to go as well. Besides, Julianne isn't too shabby to look at.

I've provided a link below. I'm sure many are familiar (sarcasm). On this link you will find actual concerts ranging from, I'm guessing
$40-$120 or more for musical entertainment. This is what one pays for quality entertainment this day and age. If one prefers what $8 get's you, than I encourage you to plan a trip to the fair and enjoy it for what it's worth. Otherwise, welcome to the year 2009 where one has to spend a fair amount of cash for good entertainment and an actual concert. Either way, my child will enjoy what a fair is really about. Kids, food, animals and silly rides.

the amount charged to get in is well worth it. JMO if you don't want to see the entertainment then at least support the 4H fair and the hard working kids from Rock county. I have gone many times and not stayed for the entertainment. A lot of the displays the kids work on are really neat. as for the animals that isn't my thing either but I do walk through and take a look. So as others have posted here if and when the fair moves I hope you are ready for BIG increases in the ticket to get in. Everyone STAY SAFE

There needs to be some entertainers that people know. If the fair wants to make more money they should try and get some people that we know. I see most people bring their children, so why not have a few bands that would make sure they have a great turn out. I know that my daughter and I will probably not even attend this year. GET BETTER ENTERTAINMENT. We will complain because we pay an outrageous amount just to enter the grounds.

gazettefan - Not being mean. Simply responding to the previous post. I find it rather upsetting that someone would say the walworth youth display much better too. The fair is for the kids. They put a TON of work into it. How do you think comments like that make them feel? A bunch of adults are whining about the fair. If you don't like it, join the 4-H and make a difference. Otherwise, quit complaining. It's sickening. My five year old will enjoy the fair for everything it's worth because he's a kid.

The last time I went to the RC fair for the entertainment "Sha Na Na" was there. That tells you how old I am..I go every year for the kids. They put alot of hard work in getting ready for the fairs and it keeps them off the streets and out of trouble...if you are going just for the entertainment and then belly ache because it is not what you like then DON'T GO. YOU WON'T BE MISSED.

And for the record, I recall numerous articles on here about the plans to move the fairgrounds and the possibilities for that. The posts on those articles were also people complaining about them wasting land, the tax payers money, on and on and on. So what's it going to be? Do people want the same 'ol same 'ol or do they want to buck up and get a better location and facility which in return will draw a bigger presence?

it's not even the about the entertainment the whole thing is just gone down hill. and compared to walworth county the rock county fair looks like the venetian fest in lake geneva small and boring. the walworth county's youth display much better as well. if you don't like the complaining DONT READ IT. have fun at the boring rock county fair while the rest of us will go to other places

So the Walworth fair has the Styx. I hope some of you don't actually believe Loverboy is any worse than Styx. Seriously, do you think Aerosmith or U2 is going to show up? Not sure what the hell you expect at a fair. Enjoy it for what it's worth. The entertainment lineup isn't what it's about. You want to see good entertainment, go spend $120 on a ticket and go to a concert.

Maybe the Fair doesn't expect to see much revenue this year. Does anyone have any suggestions, or just complaints? Terry Lee Goffey is pretty good.

The fair isn't about entertainment. It's about the kids of Rock County showing animals and accomplishments in other projects. I can honestly say in my 9 years of 4-H I went to may be 4 shows. I had better things to do than go fight the crowd. Since then I think I've only been to 4-5. If you want "better" entertainment go purchase your tickets for the entertainer of your choice's concert. Spend 4 times (at least) the money. The ticket price for the fair gets you a lot more. Think of how hard the kids, parents, and leaders work. Quit complaining. If you don't like it, fine; don't go. But don't bitch about it.

This lineup is awful...Either the money has run dry or they need a new booker. Julianne Hough is the only one I'd even consider paying money to see, and that's not likely.

Complain, complain, complain, complain. Welcome to Janesville, where nobody is ever happy. IT'S THE 4H FAIR. It's about the youth, not you adult babies. Try not to ruin it for them. I'll be curious to see how many people complain about the price too if the location of the fair actually moves to a better location which in return will help with the popularity of the event.

Kate & Kacey were on CMT's "Do You Duet." They are twin sisters and very good. They will be opening up for Julianne Hough, who even if you are not a "country" fan...have probably heard of her from ABC's Dancing With The Stars. Something else to think about: The #1 radio station in Rock County? 99.9 WJVL. (country) So what better format to bring in for enteratinement? The fair can only do so much with the budget they have. When/if they are ever fortunate enough to move this fair to a new location, they can raise prices, offer more features (truck & tractor pulls, harness races etc.) and bring in "BIGGER" (or a wider variety of) entertainment. But you also can't please 100% of the people, 100% of the time. Support the 4-H kids who work so hard and look forward to the fair every year!

Please try to remember that the Rock Co.4-H fair is the largest youth county fair. Although I agree with some about the entertainment, it would be nice to support the youth of Rock Co. and all the hard work they endure throughout the year!

Last year we went to dodge county fair, year before that too, simply because rock county had NOTHING to offer for entertainment. When you think fairs, you also look forward to who is going to be there for shows. In todays economy, people will be spending their money where they can get ALL THE SATISFACTION THEY CAN FOR THEIR BUCK and sadly, rock county is going to be last on the list again.
