Two hurt when trucks collide
EDGERTON
Two men were injured—one seriously—in an accident Thursday morning in Porter Township about 4 miles west of Edgerton.
Shortly before 8 a.m., a pickup truck driven by Theodore Larson, 43, Belleville, crossed the center line and hit a pickup truck driven by Chad Johnson, 37, Edgerton, on Highway 59 east of North Casey Road, Rock County sheriff’s deputies reported.
Johnson was hauling a skid loader on a flatbed trailer. Cody J. Deegan, 19, Edgerton, was riding with Johnson.
Larson’s truck struck Johnson’s truck at an angle, causing the trailer and skid loader to dislodge and overturn, deputies reported.
Larson was not wearing a seatbelt, but his airbag deployed. He was partially ejected but remained pinned in the truck and was freed by Edgerton firefighters, deputies reported.
Larson was flown to University Hospital, where he was in fair condition Thursday afternoon.
Johnson was wearing his seatbelt and was taken to Edgerton Memorial Community Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, deputies reported.
Deegan was wearing his seatbelt and was not hurt.
Larson will be ticketed for driving left of center and not wearing seatbelt, the sheriff’s office reported.

Oh, I know Chad, and he is a wonderful guy! I am so glad that his smarts rolled over to his driving. Thank god your ok!! People just don't get it do they? I have a best friend that refuses to wear seatbelts, but in my car.....SHE WEARS it. And the sad thing is....because she is so against them, she doesn't make her kids wear them either.....I think it is a "no one is going to tell me what to do" kind of thing.

When I was 16 my best friend and I T-boned a man at the Pontiac and Hwy 14 intersection because of a faulty light. We were both wearing our seatbelts and both our airbags deployed. Hers broke her arm, she had her hand on the steering wheel and when it deployed the force was so hard and fast she had no time to react. It also burned her legs from whatever toxin is put in the air when the explode. Mine hit me directly in the face. It almost snapped my head all the way back but the back of the seat was just in time that my head stopped. It broke my nose and my seatbelt broke some ribs. While air bags may help at lower speed accidents I don't think they do anything for over 40 mph. But that is just my opinion.

I think the norm is,most people think that bad things "ONLY" happen to other people, not themselves. Good luck in changing norm!

Well I'm glad that two of the three were wearing their seatbelts and weren't seriously hurt. I'm sure Larson is thankful for his airbag and wishes his seatbelt would have been on. Seatbelts do save lives. I wish more people would realize this.
