From the WCLO newsroom:

The city of Janesville is expecting a net gain in state aid in 2009 when compared to the aid received in 2008.

Acting City Manager, Jay Winzenz, says that will go a long way to offset some losses in local revenues in 2008. He says Janesville has seen fewer building permits and a loss in interest income earned from investments.

According to data from the state, Janesville will be getting about $34,000 less in state shared revenues, but around $212,000 more in highway aids. The net gain, according to Winzenz, works out to about $182,000 more in state aids than last year.

City staff is putting together a 2009 budget which will be presented to the city council for consideration.
