Janesville police are investigating a burglary that occurred sometime overnight at the Eastside Citgo, 1918 E. Milwaukee St.

The 911 call came into the Rock County Communications Center at 4:53 a.m. today.

Entry into the building was made through the roof and then through a vent. Once inside, the burglar or burglars disabled the security equipment, including at least one video camera, said Lt. Tim Hiers of the detective bureau.

An ATM machine was broken into with power tools, and an undetermined amount of money was taken, he said.

The combination of damage and financial loss to the business is estimated at more than $1,000, Hiers said.

At least four other burglaries this year involved entry through the roof, but Hiers said there is not enough information to say they are related.

“Usually we like to have several similarities between them,’’ he said.

I give up, newsread -- if "At least four other burglaries this year involved entry through the roof" isn't clear enough, I don't know what is. The power tools and security camera stuff are only mentioned in relation to THIS incident.

Sorry. I stand corrected. I meant "burglary" not "robbery" in my last post. Nonetheless, keep up the good work, Optimism.

As far as Bush's press, I don't think any amount of optimism can get that above the 30% mark let alone the faith mark. Optimism for this man has left the hearts and souls of most a long long time ago. Remember "SHOCK AN AWE" well, I am still in shock how about you?

Well, there's no guarantee they actually paid money for the power tools. They are criminals.

Your name suits you, optimism. I've never read a post that can put a positive spin on a robbery...maybe you should handle the press for the Bush administration. If you shoot for the stars, I'd bet you could get that approval rating up above the %30 mark...

But, I spose we can think of it this way, they are giving the police job security....

Boy, these guys have a lot of guts...you wouldn't catch me on a roof for a million bucks let a lone a thousand. And I bet all those power tools they used cost them more than what they got away with!! Not a real good hit for them last night. Sad thing is....these people that have the smarts to do such a sophisticated crime are wasting their gift on nonsense that will end them up in jail....why not get a job doing the things you are bright enough to do???

Actually when the police release information like this to the media, it ends up helping them catch who did it. It;s a ploy that gives them (the burglars) fame for what they have done, and if they're stupid enough to do this, tey'd be stupid enough to bragg about it and eventually it will get out, and they will get caught

The only similarity that the police mentioned was entry through the roof, which is actually a fairly common method. (I suggest you ... uh ... newsread more carefully.) I imagine the others did not involve the preparation and execution of this one, which sounds fairly professional.

newsread,
that's very true. But those similarities can occur due to the fact that assailants can easily see this information and plan their next break-in based on how others have done it...maybe to take the heat off of themselves and make it look like the others who have broken in. Just a thought.
