The Janesville City Council is poised tonight to pick finalists after it interviews two remaining candidates for manager. President Amy Loasching said the council could pick up to three finalists. Steve Sheiffer retired Sept. 5 after 21 years. Jay Winzenz is acting city manager. The council will choose the finalists after hearing feedback from a community panel that this morning finished interviewing five candidates.

On Wednesday, department heads will meet the finalists, after which the council will hold second interviews.

Then, council members could decide that none of the candidates fit the bill and start a third round of recruitment; choose a manager from the finalists; or decide to send delegations to the candidates’ hometowns.

This morning, the community panel interviewed Gary Dumas, 58, director of operations in Fayetteville, Ark., and Eric Levitt, 40, manager in Sedona, Ariz.

Eric Levitt of Sedona, AZ interviews with the citizen panel for the Janesville city manager position.

Gary Dumas of Fayetteville, AR interviews with the citizen panel for the Janesville city manager position.

prevention, my friend, I only have time to give the short version, so pay attention, don't make me repeat myself, there'll be a quiz later.

Her tenants in the house on that same property complained to the city because the house was unsafe. When the city went to inspect the house they noticed that the shack was in shambles and unsafe too.

For public safety, the city couldn't ignore the condition of the shack. Also, if anyone was injured or killed later, it would have been a matter of record that the city had been on the property. Therefore the city would have been libel.

The city told her that the shack was condemnable, and it certainly was, it wasn't much more than a pile of rotten boards. But, still, they gave her a chance to fix it. She claimed it wasn't condemnable; she also claimed the shack was worth 35 times what the city said it was worth.

She had it repaired without permits and without allowing the city on the property to monitor the progress, if any. She failed in her responsibility to show that the work was done by licensed contractors. She admitted that some of the work wasn't compliant with current city codes. She said those things were grandfathered when it fact they weren't. (Unsafe conditions are never grandfathered in.)

She refused to allow the city on the property for a final inspection. She exhausted every possible legal attempt to overturn the condemnation orders. This includes court cases and one final attempt to have the city council overturn all the court decisions that went against her.

She told councilman Gregg Addie (who apparently got elected without reading the newspapers [and she thought they were buddies]) that she didn't care either way if the shack was torn down or allowed to stand and that either way it would work for her. At the next council meeting he railed at her for her perfidy.: "I thought you were the lamb but you are the wolf!!!"

She expected to get positive nationwide publicity for her "cause" but instead, if the news got out of Janesville at all, the world only learned that she is indeed the B'moon.

marymac4, if you think B'moon got a raw deal then you don't know the full story and all the important details.

She told councilman Greg Addie that she didn't care either if the shack was torn down because either way it would work for her: Her whole pupose was to draw attention to herself and be a prominent person in town, no matter the reason.

OkieFed: Try looking up your facts before you make claims that people's homes are foreclosed.

come_on_people: I bet you're thinking of moving anyway. Why do you let people run your life? If one person does this, you do that? Wow, isn't that interesting.

True enough is she is an eccentric individual, but we all are. What's your point?

B'moon is a nut case! Yeah, let her run the City - you think it's 'bad' now? I would move out of COJ if she was a City employee with any kind of authority...

And, sure, no one ever has a gf/bf when they're in the process of a divorce. Yuri and his gf sure got some nerve. That's way worse than her future ex-husband trying to hire a hit man to kill them. Wow! Some of you are nuts, too!

I didnt say THEY HAVE TO BE FROM HERE it was a suggestion. But the way OUR CITY is right now someone from here who sees the whole picture on a daily bases and has knowledge on how to make changes for a BETTER COMMUNITY WOULD BE GREAT.....Yes experience is important yet so is the need of a person who actually LIVES here with the experience to make the necessary changes......And sorry i missed the woman finalist.

Do you really believe it will take until 2010 for GM to close? It has already been shutting down... decreasing productivity, shifts and personnel on the lines.

Again and unfortunately, I say this will be a VERY difficult winter for many families!

My thoughts and prayers to the families affected in all companies affected by this move.

unknown, the city council has endorsed and funded the Cullen-Doyle delegation, so they aren't doing "nothing". As to what will happen if the plant does close, that's not something that can currently be dealt with. There will be months or even years before the plant is stripped and ready for redevelopment. Getting other companies to build plants here is not going to happen overnight even if we had a kitty of money to lend out, which we don't. I'm certain this is on the mind of every council member.

marymac4, the entire idea of having a PROFESSIONAL city manager is to get the most qualified person with the requisite educational background and experience. Being familiar with the area and having roots in the community would be bonuses but should not be prerequisites.
.
The big picture with three people and the headline "Search continues for city manager", which was to the left of this story's position on the news blog, has a woman in it. And in fact, she has prior experience in Janesville, and another has a spouse with family here. But I don't think those are the most important considerations.
.
Also, the LEADERS are the city council. The manager is our EMPLOYEE.

Any women on the list? lol To bad we cant get someone locally that knows the needs of the area and one that has roots in the community. Just curious why we always look out of community for OUR LEADER. I know we have someone within our city to handle being manager.
