STEVENS POINT — A case of West Nile virus is reported in a bird found dead in Portage County.

The state Department of Health Services says the dead crow tested positive for the mosquito-borne virus. It’s the first bird with the virus found in Portage County.

The state agency reports that, as of Thursday, there had been 27 confirmed cases of the virus in birds this year, three in horses and three in humans. That didn’t include the Portage County case.
