From the WCLO newsroom:

A guilty verdict in a Rock County murder case may have come down to the testimony of a single witness according to prosecutors.

22-year-old Rick D. Freeman was found guilty Thursday afternoon of first degree intentional homicide in the 2005 shooting death of 20-year-old Maurice Hanna. Assistant Rock County District Attorney Gerald Urbik says one witness had the courage to come forward and identify Freeman as the killer. Urbik says, without that witness, its unlikely all the other evidence would have ended with a conviction. He says other witnesses appeared afraid of retaliation, which is a legitimate concern in the Porter Avenue neighborhood where the murder occurred.

Sentencing is set for November 26th.

The police can only do so much in helping people help themselves. The neighborhood has to have the will to do it and the courage to step out on whatever faith they have to start the process of making a difference. If we want safe communities, it has got to be up to the residents in the area to make the change and get the communities back.

Of course, without the will, desire and courage, there is nothing.

Thank you to the witness that stepped forward! That is the type of will, desire and courage I'm talking about!

Peace to the people of the world!

I think he is making a reference to the fact that many parents these days don't discipline their children like those of previous generations. Resulting in an increase of criminal activity due to a complete lack of respect for authority and never being held accountable for their actions.

I just can't understand why,if police know that streets like porter ave. have this kind of problems, they can't clean them up?? Scared to go down certain streets is bull crap, somebodies turf. If the belt were introduced like in the good ole days, these towns wouldn't have these problems.
