Democrats: AG shouldn't sue election officials
MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Democrats say Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen shouldn't attack state elections officials' decision not to retroactively check new voters' identities.
Van Hollen sued the state Government Accountability Board on Thursday for refusing state Republicans' request to review registrations filed since Jan. 1, 2006. The accountability board ordered checks only on the names of people who registered after Aug. 6.
State Democratic Party Chairman Joe Wineke says the lawsuit is a waste of taxpayer's money. He says Van Hollen, a Republican, shouldn't listen to party bosses who want to distract voters.
Justice Department spokesman Kevin St. John responded by referring to a statement Van Hollen issued Thursday saying the checks would protect the right to vote. Republican Party officials say they're pleased someone is finally taking election integrity seriously.

Just listening to the substitute host, Lee Rayburn, on the Thom Hartmann show:
"Misleading" absentee ballot applications are being mailed out by the McCain campaign to registered Democratic voters in purple states. The return addresses are inaccurate, as well as other information. "Misleading, lying" mailers are going out in Florida and other purple states. It's a caging tactic.
Calls are coming in verifying that this is happening in small towns, as well as larger ones.
The host is trying to determine the scale of this subversion of our democracy.
Here we go again.
UPDATE: It's happening in Pennsylvania, too. The ballots have included multiple ballots, sender address is a new address while return address is from old city clerk's office... The I'm trying to type this as he says it, and it may not be clear, since I miss some. I apologize for that.
Fraud. Election fraud. Hopefully the local authorities can help, or the local Obama offices. Calling the media could help, too.
A caller: Robocalls asking if you're interested in an absentee ballot. Or, notifying the voter that the ballot will be mailed back postage paid to the National Republican Committee.
Another caller from Detroit. Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida: That's where the absentee ballots are being sent to Obama voters. Add Missouri to that, per one of our commenters.
You can be sure McCain isn't doing this because he wants every vote counted.
UPDATE: A North Carolina caller got THREE of them. In the phone book there's a street address, but on the form, it's a P.O. Box, per the caller.
California caller from registrar's office: McCain should take the application for absentee and submit within 3 days. But the applications will most likely be held for the 3 days and "die". They'll most likely submit the Republican ones, and throw away the Democratic ones.
The return address for the request card goes to the wrong city clerk office address, per Rayburn.
Michigan caller: Wrong home address, and then, wrong city clerk address on the one he got. He donated to Obama, but not a Democrat, so he wonders if that's how they found him.
Hey media? There's a real story here.

Let's see if I have this straight;
The unions want voters to be identified in voting for or against the union.
But (not necessarily a union stand) when it comes to proving your who you are to vote in an political election, well, thats an invasion of privacy and hurts the poor, sick and elderly
No one is asking who your voting for only validating your eligble to vote. Proof should be provided unless you have something to hide.

No..this is about taking YEARS to get this completed in Wisconsin. The Dems have constantly been against this measure. In fact Doyle has vetoed the legislation every time it crossed his desk. If Doyle had signed when given the opportunity our state would already be in compliance with the Federal law requiring a state wide voter registration list. But because of the vetoes we are left with the problems encountered today. So yes, it all has to do with ID’s…that is why he vetoed the measures to begin with.

This isn't about showing ID to vote. This is about showing up to vote and finding that your registration has been cancelled.

The big problem is the national stage. If the Dems want to keep voting the way it is (no ID) for local politics I can live with that; Wisconsin decisions effecting Wisconsin politics. What I do have an issue you with is voting for a candidate on a national level without accountability. This has implications above local politics on a national even a world scale (we are the true super power) and this should not be taken lightly; i.e. allowing anyone to walk in to a voting place and provide any name (provided it is on the rolls) and vote with proof (ID) they are indeed that person.
