School board approves grading pilot program

A group of Janesville teachers wants to try scoring papers on a scale of one to 13, instead of the current system of zero to 100.
The teachers hope that students will be more motivated if they don't receive zeros. Not all students will be graded using this procedure and the grades will be transferred back to the traditional grading scale to determine the impact of the project.
Some school board members voiced reluctance to the plan. President DuWayne Severson says the administration did not provide enough background information before asking the school board to consider allowing certain classes to change grading procedures.
The school board approved the research project.
