Oshkosh Corp. wins $82.6M contract with US Army
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) _ Oshkosh Corp. has received an $82.6 million contract with the U.S. Army to upgrade nearly 300 military vehicles.
The company said Wednesday about 290 trucks will be returned to Oshkosh, where they'll be rebuilt with improvements that provide safety and comfort to American troops.
The vehicles are called Heavy Equipment Mobility Tactical Trucks and are used to haul fuel and other cargo in Iraq and elsewhere.
The scheduled improvements include upgrading the cab to make it fully air-conditioned and armor-ready, as well as adding a more powerful drivetrain and upgrading safety features.
Shares of Oshkosh were down 45 cents, or 3.2 percent, to $13.33 in morning trading Wednesday.

The new HEMTT "A4" is set up for the armour that is to be installed when it gets to its home. The Goverment adds countless other pieces to these trucks. not all trucks go to the middle east. many trucks are for use in other areas including our own NATIONAL GUARD . STOP BY THE NAT GUARD POST IN JNESVILLE & ASK THEM WHAT TRUCKS THEY WOULD RATHER RIDE IN!!!

villajanesville, none of the terrorists were from Iraq, or hadn't you heard? It's only been seven years. You could have picked up a paper.

I drove one of these 8x8 trucks both new and old when i was in the military. They were worthless in the sand. They did better at digging holes than they did getting out of them. A sturdy truck that needs a better electrical system.
A plus for Wisconsin to renew the contract though.

Oshkosh, B'Gosh...:) As a member of the Air Force, in Maine I witnessed the Oshkosh machines clearing all kinds of snow off a runway big enough to handle the Space Shuttle and was a 4th option for landings as well as launch B-52's. Awesome Oshkosh machines...jmo

As a worker at Oshkosh corp (truck) I'd like to tell you while it's a nice contract others are ending. Plus the commercial side has been on a downslide. We are always working to get new contracts & have things in the works. Would it be nice to get to big & need the use of GMs or Stoughton Trailers buildings and workforce? Yes that would be a good problom to have. Do we want to keep the war going just to build more trucks? I make good money & benies & truck, however i'd rather see the troops home & safe. Maybe something will happen for everyone in the Janesville area that we can help with someday.Just be realistic. Please note I still own a house & business intrests in Janesville & hope to be back someday. Good luck !!!

"Wouldn't it be nice if Oshkosh Truck got too big for it's current facility and had to expand?"
I heard that they are already getting to big and they were looking at GM because they are set up for trucks...

Hi DodgerRam! Thats my son and I'm proud he builds vehicles that are a lot safer for the troops. He has explained to me about several of the much needed safety improvements that Bush hasn't thought were very important. Anything we can do for these guys to keep them a little safer and a little more comfortable is worth it. Especially to the families that they will be coming home to.

Pwrtrip's comments made my day.
Oh yes, we're putting in the headrest TVs for the dust mites clinging to the back wall of the cab and the 24" spinners to help with blinding the enemy green with envy.
If Pwrtrip really knew anything about these trucks you would know that headrest TVs are useless (no second row of seats) and the trucks already have spinners on them, its called CTIS. Pretty helpful when some tires get shot out, can keep going on the rest.
How do I know??? I build em for a living.

I'm a flaming liberal and I have no problem with giving our troops this equipment. What a bizarre worldview Pwrtrip must have.

Pwrtrip: Even if you are against the war you should at the very least, want the troops to be safer. You take your freedom for granted and you should be ashamed of that.
I don't think I've ever seen you write anything on any blog that was worth reading.

Pwtrip,
Are you kidding me? I can't believe you even made that comment. Enjoy your freedom by sitting on your couch why others are out serving you.
