Madison woman arrested for 7th OWI
MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Dane County sheriff's deputies say they arrested a Madison woman early Wednesday on a seventh drunken driving offense.
Authorities say the 44-year-old woman was found in her vehicle in a parking lot on Verona Rd.
The Dane County Communications Center had received calls about a possible drunken driver before deputies found her.

janesvillan... I'd be curious to know where you got her name, didn't see it in any of the articles. Kudos to your investigating!
What I find frustrating is that the judges aren't always handing down the maximum sentences on these multiple OWI cases- maybe they are in other parts of the state, but around here it doesn't always seem to be the case. Unless the Courts show a "get tough" approach, the message is lost on how severe these crimes are. Under WI law it takes a 5th offense OWI to become a felony- sentence these people to PRISON, not PROBATION!

.
Actually, if you are of legal drinking age it is NOT illegal to drive a car when you have consumed alcohol...only if you are above the limit.

adult: im gainfully employed, dont worry, and as for my hobbys well, thank you for engaging in me in my favorite:) im not whining about anything. i merely point out the facts. i smoke to much pot to whine about stuff. believe it or not, but this is productive for my cause. you personally may not care what i or the other hemp educated type, but make no mistake you and others are reading what we write. if we open the mind of one person then its a success. but if you dont like what i write then either skip my posts or if theyre that offensive then please click on the suggest removal tab on all my comments. im aware of the legal status of the two, can you tell me WHY a plant is illegal to possess but not a man made poison??
.
a35: thanks for the clarification forgot to write second offense. but note the maximum penalty on drinking offenses is seldom imposed as well...

And she's still on the road why? The law needs to be changed and people like this need to be locked up. This woman will kill someone if she continues to drink and drive.

Her 6th conviction, for OWI and operating while revoked, sent her to prison. She had been ordered to maintain full-time employment, not to own or operate a car, continue treatment, and her license was revoked for 36 months (in 2005). In 2007 her probation was revoked and she was put in Taycheedah for 18 months, with three years supervision to follow.
.
Clearly the punishment approach has been used. Clearly the punishment approach has failed. Why, then, do people always say "punish more"? Do we think it will work better, or does it just make us feel better? The goal is to keep drunks off the road.

Wisconsin needs to wise up. In Minnesota, (the state where noting is allowed) first time you get a fine and license pulled for 6 months. 2nd time you get a fine, loose license for a year, get probation for a year and have to go through mandatory drug rehab. 3rd time you go to jail, loose license forever, get probation, mandatory drug rehab and of course the fine.

cjjs-thanks for the clarification on that. I obviously was clearly mistaken on that. I'm glad you were able to help clarify for me, though.

The kid, you are wrong. First offense possession of Marijuana is usually just ticketed as an ordinance violation and 2nd offense is a class I felony. According to the Wisconsin state statutes "For a Class I Felony, the penalty is a fine of up to $10,000, or imprisonment of up to 3-1/2 years, or both; however, for a repeat offender, the term of imprisonment may increase up to 2 years with prior misdemeanor convictions, and up to 6 years with a prior felony conviction."
Note that this is the maximum, and is seldom if ever imposed.
Note that possession with intent to deliver is an entirely different matter and is treated much more seriously.

thekid---seriously, you really need to find a job or a hobby. If not, I think I speak for a lot of us here, stick with reading High Times if all you ever want to do is complain about the injustices within the American legal system as it applies to THC related charges. The bottom line is that it is ILLEGAL to posess THC; it is legal to posess alcohol. I think the answer to your question may be related to those two nuggets of information. So, my suggestion is, if you'd like to get THC legalized, stop whining about it every chance you get, and go out there and do something PRODUCTIVE to change it... what about thekid for 2012?

It is time for Wisconsin to really get serious about imparied drivers like many of our surrounding states have. After a 2nd conviction within 10 years, mandatory jail time. Get caught driving impaired while on suspension for driving while impaired, mandatory habitual driving elimination of licensing priveledges. Get caught a 2nd time, mandatory 20 years in jail. Wisconsin, get real with dealing with those who CHOOSE to put the rest of us at risk.

state of WI 5th or more drunk driving offense nets you a $600-$10,000 fine. 6 months to 6 years imprisonment. 2-3 years license revocation. occupational license after 90 days or 12 months(if 2 or more offenses in 5 years). possession of marijuana in ANY AMOUNT will net youa feloney with 3.5 years imprisonment and $10,000 fine. can ANYONE please explain the logic in this??

They drive with their license revoked anyway. Thankfully she didn't hurt or kill someone else. They never learn. Here is a good column from Jim Stingl of the Milwaukee Journal.

The article didn't mention, did she have a drivers license? I would hope that it would have been revoked by now (unless the previous 6 offenses were decades ago and she was given another chance maybe?).
