Wisconsin AG exports increase 13 percent
MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Governor Jim Doyle says Wisconsin's agricultural exports increased 14 percent in the first six months of the year.
Doyle presented the figures at Monday's Midwest U.S.-Japan Conference in Milwaukee.
His office says the $975 million in exports over that period is a record.
Dairy exports grew 59 percent over those six months, driven by a healthy demand for cheese, whey and butter. Cheese exports alone were up 48 percent.
Exports also were driven by growing demand for dairy products in Canada, Mexico, Japan, China and Korea.
Agricultural exports account for about 20 percent of Wisconsin farm income. Agriculture generates $51 billion for the state annually and provides close to half of a million jobs.

Most of our dairy products in Wisconsin are exported. What we need now is the ability for our cheese plants, that are running at near capacity, to expand.

Wow - that's great! Just think how much more we could export if we promoted our dairy industry the way that California does theirs!
