Jury trial starts this week in Falk explosion suit
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A jury trial to determine responsibility for $72 million in damage done by a gas explosion at a Milwaukee factory starts this week.
The December 2006 blast at the Falk Corp. shook the city and did $72 million in damage.
Investigators determined the explosion was caused by gas leaking from a propane pipe installed by mechanical contractor J.M. Brennan in 1988. J.M. Brennan has argued the leak occurred because Falk did not properly maintain the pipe.
If a jury determines Falk is at least 51 percent responsible for the blast, J.M. Brennan is off the hook. If a jury finds J.M. Brennan 50 percent responsible or more, the contractor will have to pay for that portion of the damage.
Jury selection for the six-week trial began Monday.
