ABC's Supernanny plans filming in Evansville

EVANSVILLE—It appears ABC’s "Supernanny" will spend at least two weeks filming an Evansville family this fall.

Alex Pesquera, field coordinator for Ricochet Television/Supernanny USA, sent a letter to Evansville Police Chief Scott McElroy seeking the city’s approval for filming from about 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. from Sept. 30 to Oct. 13, according to the letter released from the city.

Pesquera wrote that “ABC has hand-picked a wonderful family from your community to be featured on their hit show 'Supernanny.'” The identity of the family was not revealed in the letter.

The letter states about 80 percent of the filming would be done within the home on private property, and the family’s neighbors would be notified of the filming.

The crew would be small and no street closures would be needed, Pesquera wrote.

Johnnie Raines, casting director for the show, said this afternoon he could not confirm that the show was working with an Evansville family.

“When we work with a family, we try to keep their identity secret for their own sake until we actually have taped the show,” he said.

He stressed the show’s production schedule can change at any moment.

The agenda for tonight’s public safety committee meeting includes a “discussion regarding ABC’s 'Supernanny' coming to Evansville from Sept. 7 to 21 or Sept. 30 to Oct. 14.”

The show brings British nanny Jo Frost to parents across the country “to help them with their badly behaving children and turn them into angels in three weeks or less,” according to Pesquera’s letter.

I agree w/ your comment grasshopper. (re: Kids do not respect authority or adults anymore because society has told them they have "rights" and that they do not have to.) NOT too long & I'd have to say w/ in a couple of days after my oldest son started Kindergarten (5 years ago) in the JSD, he came home stating how NO ONE had a "RIGHT" to touch/or hurt him in ANY way, etc., etc.!!
(re: "SPANKING")
.
ANYWHO, we should ~Welcome SuperNanny!!~ & I personally wish her the BEST of luck! :) ...just 3 wks...Hmmmmmmmmm! :)
.
BTW~ THANKS JSD! lol! :)

Kudos to the family seeking the Super Nanny's help. It means they want things to be better and if you've ever watched the show, you'd realize that family is at the end of their rope from emotional fatigue, poor eating habits, lack of daily structure, etc. To those watching, a lot of the stuff is obvious (kids will refuse to eat dinner if you have a Rubbermaid tub full of pre-packaged sweets at kid level in the pantry,) other times the parents just need a nudge to be consistent with punishments or need to support their spouse more.
Super Nanny "Jo-Jo" knows her stuff!

jviers77- What do you mean "make us look bad?" Believe me there are plenty of other things that go on in this state that are far more embarassing than supernanny coming to town!! I really don't know how a family asking for help in controling their children is a bad thing.

grasshopper: Not sure how old your children are but I spanked my daughter when she was a toddler. Never had a police officer show up at my door.

All cities and states have poor parents. If you watch the show they have been in several states.

You need a license to drive....why not get training for parenting....I see many parents who need it and kids that would have benefited from it.

Its great for parents to ask for help, but come on , on national television???? Not maybe asking so much for help, but the compensation that comes with it?? IF they really want help we have very good counselors and Psych. Right here in Rock County..

It doesn't make anyone look bad. Sometimes people just need extra help with their children. Wouldn't you rather ask for help then have something go wrong?

No, it's not because of your third grade teacher. It's because their isn't any spell check on this thing ;-)

I think this is great! And, yes, the show is more about retraining parents than the children. Naughty parents! LOL!!

I can't believe someone would want to showcase their badly behave children to the National audience. Wow, the parents must be really attention starved.

I doubt they'll need more than one truck to produce the show. It's not like Extreme Makeover where they have dozens of workers, production crew, etc. Super Nanny is one person, a couple producers and a couple camera people. The article did mention that no roads will be closed.

You think she'd get paid more to be a nanny in England than to have her own show here in the states? Jo will kick butt I'm sure. Can't wait to see this episode. :)

Did anyone watch "Don't forget the lyrics" about a year ago when a guy from Wisconsin didn't name one song? That was humiliating for Wisconsin. So many people out in the audience with Green Bay Packer jerseys and cheese heads. Anyway, why can't some people get help not in the public eye? There must be money involved. I understand needing help (I'm a parent and truly understand) but why not do it privately. I guess in the end, it's their business and our entertainment.

The cause of "ineffective parenting" is the fact that the right of the parents to control their children has been taken away by the government. No one would ever have to ask me why my teenager is out of control if I could have spanked him when he was a toddler. Bring on the Supernanny. Maybe she can stop by my house. Kids do not respect authority or adults anymore because society has told them they have "rights" and that they do not have to. As a parent who is not blind to what children are capable of or up to, I have seen children up to no good whose parents think they are angels. You cannot be with them every minute, how well I know this, but then I guess "you" can't be sure they haven't lost their halo.

Most times that I've seen this show, the kids were the way they were because of the parent's ineffectiveness. Jo shows ways for us all to become better parents--sometimes very simple things to create better communication and atmosphere. Oftentimes, it is difficult to see such dysfunctional families, but they are more the norm these days, and any positive assistance is helpful--even if it's in the name of entertainment.

jviers77; do you only remember the negative?
Recently Brittini from our area was on The Real world, she was very positive, she did a nice job. What about all the famous good people from this area; Frank Lloyd Wright, Liberace, Houdini, Spencer Tracy.

Parents asking for help in how to best raise their children should never be criticized. We have many other things going on in this state that are much worse than this!!!
