Oshkosh Corp. loses on $20 billion contract
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) In a decision that surprised Wall Street analysts, Oshkosh Corp. was eliminated from competition to develop a lightweight military tactical vehicle to replace the once mighty Humvee.
Analysts had expected Northrop Grumman Corp. and its partner Oshkosh Truck Corp. to be among the winners for the $20 billion contract.
The Army and Marines Corp. awarded deals to General Dynamics Corp. and Humvee maker AM General; Lockheed Martin Corp. and Armor Holdings; and BAE Systems and Navistar International Corp. All three teams will submit seven prototype vehicles, plus four trailers to be evaluated and tested by the services.
Oshkosh Corp. spokeswoman Ann Stawski says the company remains firm in its belief that it developed the best vehicle to replace the Humvee.

Actually, Oshkosh is still building the MRAP II (with other contractors), and was just awarded a different contract for tactical armor for the Marines. And the long run may yet mean that they are contracted to build whatever vehicle is selected.

(I haven't considered the GM site likely to be an auto factory again, no matter who owns it.)
