GOP attempt to challenge Milwaukee voters fails
MADISON, Wis. (AP) An attempt by the Republican Party of Wisconsin to disqualify thousands of registered voters in Milwaukee has failed.
The Milwaukee Election Commission rejected a challenge filed by Republican attorneys shortly before Wednesday's 5 p.m. deadline.
The party challenged about 60,000 voters who registered between Jan. 1, 2006 and Aug. 6, 2008. It argued the city had failed to perform identity checks on them as required under federal law.
State officials, however, say those checks do not have to be retroactively performed.
The party also challenged about 1,000 people who registered to vote and cast absentee ballots at the municipal building between Oct. 6 and 15.
The commission voted 2-1 to dismiss the challenge.

If the GAB decided to follow the law when enacted YEARS ago it would not be a problem today.

If the databases that voter registrations were compared to were normalized and accurate, you would be correct.

Following the law will only disenfranchise those not eligible [by law] to vote and will ensure only legal votes are counted. To the remark on the fliers, although I am not sure of the legality, if true it is in essence morally wrong.

Yeah like printing fliers up telling Republicans to vote on the 4th and Democrats on the 5th. May seem a no brainer, but with an official looking seal on the top of the flier elderly people could become confused. None of these lawsuits filed across the country by republicans would be happening if Mccain was ahead...Even after the Supreme Court made a decision in Ohio the republicans still want George Bush to help disenfranchise voters...voters who are probably voting for Obama.

"discount voters"...If you truly believed that voters might be discounted and wanted to make sure it did not happen you would want the election laws followed.

Nice try by the Rebuplican party to discount voters because McCain is not going to carry Wisconsin and the Republican candidates won't win in Milwaukee.
I bet they would not try this if they had the numbers reversed in their favor. Vote early and vote often.

Big surprise. Following federal election law is just not important to the people in this country.
