Property taxes will increase in Turner School District
BELOIT TOWNSHIP--The Turner School Board on Monday night unanimously approved a $3.6 million levy for the 2008-2009 school year.
That’s an increase of 15 percent over last year’s levy.
To cover it, district property owners will pay taxes of $9.89 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. That's an increase of 77 cents, or 8.4 percent, over last year’s tax rate.
Uncertain construction costs in projects approved in an April referendum were given as one reason for the levy increase.
A full story will appear in Tuesday's Janesville Gazette.

Poor neighborhood?? Hmmm, the last time i checked, most of the Turner District was in the working class category. If people want better schools and better public services, unfortunately, that means that taxes will rise also.

Poor neighborhood? I don't consider where I live to be a poor neighborhood. Our schools need the improvements that we voted for and I expected our taxes to go up. This isn't a surprise to me.
