Ryan spends big on campaign ads
MADISON
Rep. Paul Ryan is spending heavily to run television ads touting his plans even though most observers expect the Janesville Republican to breeze to re-election.
Ryan has spent more than $1 million on television and radio ads through Oct. 15, according to his campaign finance report. He had not run television commercials since first winning re-election in 2000.
The ad spending is considered noteworthy for an incumbent representing what independent observers are calling a safe district. They are raising speculation that Ryan is laying the groundwork for a future statewide campaign for the U.S. Senate or governor or worried that his race against Democrat Marge Krupp, a political newcomer, may be closer than expected.
Ryan dismissed that speculation in an interview, saying he was simply trying to pitch his proposals directly to the public.
"My pollsters told me not to bother doing this," he said. "It wasn't justified under conventional political thinking, but I believe it's time to communicate with people about positive solutions and big ideas."

Greg Addie is a Republican in "Independent" clothing who did not have the guts to take on Ryan in a primary.

I agree with whoanelie. "Write in" candidate Greg Addie entered the race because of the 850 dollar bail out. Addie wants term limits in Congress. I find it interesting that WCLO's blog page cut out his opening statement while he debated Paul Ryan on Jat-TV. Go Greg!!!!

By the way, Obama also voted yes for the reauthorizing of the Patriot Act and no for the closure of it. Thanks to circumstances out of our control and the attacks on our Country, protection was needed. I don't have a problem with that. I got nothing to hide. Regardless, that really has nothing to do with this article, which is my point.

I like how people bring up the bailout bill like republicans are the only ones that supported it. Obama voted for the bailout bill also. That is no longer a very valid argument.

I was using the downtown Post Office one day (this was quite some while before it closed due to the flooding), and I drove into the parking lot, which is, of course, just the other side of the building from Paul Ryan's office. I had several heavy packages, so I wanted to park as close as I could. There was only one open parking space nearby, and Paul Ryan and 2 other men were standing in it. I pulled up and waited for them to move aside, the logical thing to do when one is standing in a parking spot that someone wants to park in. Or so I thought. They looked up at me, waiting to park, but none of them moved an inch. I sat there for a moment, and then, when they still did not move, I rolled down my window and asked them if I could get in there. They ignored me, and kept talking. I blew my horn, and the two who were with him looked at me like I had just pulled the whiskey bottle from the bar in front of them, but they moved. Ryan did not. He remained anchored to the spot he was standing in. I laid on the horn, very loud and long, and finally, he moved aside, shaking his head. He showed me extreme discourtesy in exchange for what had begun, on my part, as politeness. I saw exactly what kind of individual King Paul is that day, and have never had even a tiny speck of respect for him since then.

Spark - conservatives want personal liberties.
Paul Ryan voted against our personal liberties when he voted for the Patriot Act (twice).
He voted to allow wiretapping of American citizens (2008).
He voted for the bailout, increasing socialism in the U.S. And, as we know now, the bailout is even worse than we thought, the U.S. is buying shares in corporate banks and giving our bailout money to banks which are now using it to buy other banks.

Just write in Greg Addie when voting. He's different and not part of the 2 sided coin. We need change from the other 2 parties.

Paul Ryan needs to go. It's time for fresh ideas. All of Bush's puppets need to be voted out of office.

Paul Ryan has repeatedly refused to answer the Political Courage Test (www.votesmart.org)where you can see his voting record since he took office. Follow the links to www.opensecrets.org and you can see who his big contributors are--Insurance and Securities among the top, as well as individual donors, many from the Washington DC area. I have written and called his office numerous times and all I get back is a letter detailing why he cannot support my request or position. He does not represent me!

shopierhuh - I agree with you that our 2 party system is really a Coke or Pepsi choice - in other words, a one party system. However, I think voters in Ryan's district are very aware he (Ryan the Washington politician) voted to give $700B of taxpayers money to corporate bankers. Therefore, Ryan would be worried about losing this year due to voter revolt, whether he was Dem or Rep.

It's funny that Ryan NOW criticizes the Bush Administration when he voted with Bush most of the time. He now wants his constituents to believe he's the one that will best manage their problems. Paul talks out of both sides of his mouth. The general public should go to his website and see who his major contributors are...the wealthy of Rock, Walworth, Kenosha, and Racine counties.

I have noticed that people try to turn every issue into a partisan political contest. It is like someone is watching a game or something. The two party system that has subverted our political system is at the root of most of our problems. These Repubs and Dems are fundamentally not different, they are two sides of the same coin.
.
Until people escape this trap of a two party system, shut off the TV and choose a candidate on their own, expect no changes.

I agree with you woodsman, out of touch is a nice way of putting it.
.
Ryan sent me a letter a couple of days ago, a solicitation for donations. He states that he voted for the second bailout package to save us and the economy.
.
He said this; " I am outraged that we find ourselves in this situation, and will fight to hold those responsible accountable."
.
Um, I just noticed that he voted for 700 billion of our hard earned money to bailout rich, greedy, incompetant businessmen. But he would like me to send him some money so that he can hold those responsible accountable.
.
He is responsible, both before and after, as he has been one those at the helm. What is next, am I going to come home from work and find someone with all of my posessions out in the driveway loading them in a truck? Will this person tell me that he just found them that way and he now going to look for the thieves?

Is that what is called, getting to comfortable? Ryan is,i think one of the fat cats in Washington/Wisconsin,that "IS" out of touch with the REAL world, and people "NOT" just getting by. I think we need a new set of players, here, and in Washington, but nobody listens to the little guy,"RIGHT"???
