MINERAL POINT, Wis. (AP) A pilot who was arrested after Iowa County sheriff's deputies say they found his plane loaded with marijuana has been transferred to federal custody.

Federal agents called sheriff's officials who stopped the twin-engine plane from taking off last Saturday night at the Mineral Point airport.

Iowa County Sheriff Steven Michek says they recovered 150 pounds of high-quality marijuana from compartments on the plane. Authorities say the drugs had a street value of nearly $700,000.

The pilot was alone on the plane. Investigators aren't sure why it landed at the airport northwest of Mineral Point.

Sheriff's officials say the 29-year-old pilot is from Ukiah, Calif.

OK,OK, the impaired judgement abounds enough in this incident to convince me that the two of you smoked weed and that the weed was pretty potent.

What's sticks out is: she told you who and what she is coupled with your willingness to publically announce who and what she is.

thekid, it was probably dumped because of a libel thing.

And consider this: she was a scammer who gets her pot by posing as an ADA. She tested your weed and decided to pass it up.

Also, couldn't the pilot or his cohorts put the pot in non-see-through bags?!

apparently the gazette has issues with the fact that i smoked pot with an 'authority' figure. ive admitted numerous times to smoking pot on this blog and never been removed. the second i mention i smoked pot with someone of importance its removed. dont want readers to know smokers are REAL people i guess...so let me rephrase...it WAS a dream;)...and in this dream we were at miller park tailgating and i asked this NICE looking young lady if she would like to smoke a little herb with me. she stated that she shouldnt cuz of her job...then showed me her badge. she was an asst district attorney for a county somewhere in the area...and then she consumed some marijuana with me.

Aviation is a Federal regulated activity. Local and state authorities have little to no jurisdiction over pilots and planes. That said, pilots are not protected like common drivers from authorities. If you think driving a car is a privilege ... being able to flying an airplane is even more so. The FAA can search just about any plane they want, and for no reason at all. It's just the way it is.
