MADISON — Students at a Madison high school were dismissed early because of safety concerns stemming from a fight the day before, but a football game is expected to be played tonight as scheduled.

Police spokesman Mike Hanson said officials were concerned about threats of retaliation after a group fight at James Memorial High School on Thursday that resulted in the arrest of seven students. Madison police increased their presence there Friday morning.

Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools, Pam Nash, said in a statement that after consultation with police, school officials decided to dismiss the students at 1 p.m.

Janesville Parker High School's football team will play at Madison Memorial tonight, as scheduled, said Parker Coach Joe Dye.

So why would there be retaliation between a boy and a girl? Something is odd in this story.

First of all it was NOT a gang fight, It was not a race related fight. It started between a boy and girl. It esculated from there.
No they did not need to cancel the football game. Everything turned out fine on Friday night, you are going way overboard and that is due to the media. The WI State Journal is not even reporting it correctly.

WISC didn't add much with their report except there was talk about weapons at school, and a "knife-like object" was taken from a student. No weapons were found. School canceled. I wonder what will change to make it OK to open Monday?

It was Liberals vs. Conservatives. They would have fought until the whole school was in shambles. Good thing it was broken up...

I got a call from my son who plays football for Parker and he asked me to come and get him after his game. He is very scared about all of this and I don't blame him. I don't understand why they just didn't hold the game on another day. This is serious stuff and the Parker football team doesn't need to be around this right now. Go Parker, but please keep them safe.
