Milton students searched after bomb threat
From the WCLO newsroom:
Milton High School students will be searched before entering school Friday because of a late afternoon bomb threat on Thursday.
Milton police say they were informed by school officials around 4:00 that someone had written the word "bomb" on an inside wall. The building was evacuated and searched and nothing was found.
Police officials say the building will remain in exterior lockdown throughout the day, however the school day will proceed as planned, including homecoming activities.

We had several bomb threats while I attended MHS, I'm sad to see that it's still going on. I am, however, glad that MPD and the school district are taking it seriously, just in case.

If this child is caught someday they will get to start a future Presidents campaign in the living room of their Chicago home. Parents always ask where do my children learn these things?

My kids go to school in Milton and my daughter is 12 and in Middle School there and another girl came up to her and a friend yesterday and asked them if they wanted to buy any pot? 12years old in Milton...my daughter and her friend went to the principal about it but how scary that these things are happening at such a young age..... And this is a scary thing happening at the High School there....I guess it said something about a Bomb and 1:30 or something like that....So that is scary for those kids today.....

Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen one of these! I figured kids started realizing how serious of an offense this was and stopped. I had a friend in 8th grade who did one, a very good kid that was just messing around to show off and made a mistake. He paid for it though, missed the whole last semester of 8th grade, had to go to an expulsion hearing and take summer classes to make it all up. Oh and he was grounded FOREVER!!! Not to mention all the bad looks and critizism he got!

It's just alarming to me how much things have changed in school and with the youth in general. It's alarming. I had a blast in school when I was younger, especially high school. There was the occasional fight, etc. but that's just it. It was a fight. You'd go outside, smack each other around a little and then it was over. Whoever lost, learned a lesson and things were back to normal. Not saying that fighting was right either, but it never went beyond that. It's just how things got solved. None of this crazy threatening, bringing weapons to school stuff!

My oldest goes to Milton High School and she was at the school yesterday afternoon when the evacuated the building. I am glad the MPD and the school are not just sitting by waiting for something to happen. In this day and age, you just never know what threat is serious and what isn't so it is always better to be a little bit to cautious.
But that being said, I don't think the school really needed to call me at 6 am this morning to tell me my child would be searched upon entering the school. Not only was I half asleep when they called, but I think warning people about a search kind of defeats the purpose of it.

Kids aren't thinking about who this is affecting. They don't care! I was at Parker when it was on national news for so many bomb threats. After a while I think kids were just doing it to say they had done it, plus to get out of class. Every single time they found a threat we had to walk to Franklin Middle School, so it took up quite a bit of time. Kids just don't care.

Kids do these things because they are crying out for attention. Usually, that attention they crave, is the one at home.
Parents want to take the easy street, and not the difficult one of parenting. Parents are busy (working extra hours), or tired, or intersted in only being a 'buddy' of the child, for fear the child won't love them in return for being tough.
They substitute those attributes with material things. They think if they just buy one more toy, the child will be sidetracked, or love thier parent even more. Give them what they want, and they will be happy. Unfortunately, it is only temporary. Those temporary feelings turn in to a quick fix of happiness that carries with the child in to thier older years, and they will constantly be looking for that quick fix of happiness (attention).
It is hard being a parent, but very rewarding if you are firm, demanding, loving, and most of all, their parent.

Assuming that anyone besides the one who wrote it has a clue who did it.

Perhaps if the students have to show up early and/or stay later due to these threats, one of them may be more inclined to let authorities know who left the message, or mete out some peer-inspired justice the parents and teachers cannot.

My children attend schools in the Milton School District. At least the school is being proactive and searching the students as they enter. They should take it one step further and search lockers, desks and teachers. I don't know about you but I would be more upset if they stood by and did nothing and something happenned.

Sannio, do you watch the news and see what has happened in schools over the years? The trend of kids losing their minds and harming others? Do you have kids in school? Society is not going insane, some of todays youth are going insane. The school is taking extra precautions to protect others from some moron that thought it was funny to right something that is not taken likely due to past events. Get a clue!
