Food ingredient company coming to Beloit
An Idaho company plans to bring up to 90 jobs to Beloit to add to the mix of Rock County’s growing food ingredient and processing sector.
HydroBlend, Inc., will move into a 40,000-square-foot building in Beloit’s I-90 Business Park by the end of the year, said Andrew Janke, the city’s economic development director.
The company also plans to buy two lots adjacent to the site on Sager Lane and build a 60,000-square-foot research and development and production facility.
Janke said line jobs are expected to start at about $12 per hour, while those in the production and R&D area will pay about $26.
HydroBlend makes batters and coatings for food. Based in Nampa, Idaho, the company also has a plant in Limestone, Maine.

ihavealife---$3000 odd dollars for blood work? Either you got ripped off or had MAJOR blood work done. Healthcare is one of the most stable fields you could possibly work in. With all the baby boomers getting older and older, the nursing shortage is growing. It is very safe to say, Smartypants' job as well as my future job is very, very stable.

Some people in this town would complain if they were hung with a new rope.
I don't wish on anybody to loose their job, but maybe this GM closing thing will be good for the area. We can take a step back, let the local economy correct its self, and start over with what we have. It might be harder for some to buy what they want, but you always risk what you don't value, and you don't value what comes easy.

Most of you "feeling sorry for yourselves, pity people", should note that their was more than one dollar and hour amount listed in the article. The $12 an hour jobs would be great for some young people starting out, or a additional income for a family. The $26 an hour incomes are quite good. You will find, that prices will drop around here as more are fighting for a smaller portion of business, now that we don't have a large portion of the population making the GM wages.

I'm not sure why there needs to be a Beloit vs. Janesville debate. I thought that stopped at high schools sports.
Back on topic, this is very good news. Growth of an industry other than manufacturing is good for the area. Also, $12/hour to start, for unskilled labor, is actually pretty good. Yes, it would be hard to support a family on $12/hour, but not so hard with two incomes at $12/hour.

Bellagio, check the crime stats. Janesville has more of both murder and violent crimes. Also, Beloit just cleaned up and raided a whole bunch of drug houses. Please remind me when Janesville also did that. Oh, is it never?
Also, remember Janesville does not have a gang problem. Just the highest school expulsion rate in Wisconsin, not including Milwaukee or Madison.
Your comments show your ignorance and how racist you are. Have you ever been to Beloit? I would guess the answer is no, just like the other cowards who like to spew hate and vile comments.

Looks like Beloit has outdone Janesville again. Maybe our so called "leaders" in Janesville and take a trip down to Beloit to show how to run a city and attract jobs. Beloit seems to be on the way up and Janesville continues to go down.
Aren't you glad we voted for all of that money to add on to the high schools and renovate everything? In five years, they may have to close one of the high schools. If not, there will be quite a bit of wasted money spent on school space that is not even used. Face it, Janesville is in real trouble.

I am sure there are plenty of people out there who would love to make $12 an hour as it is better than nothing or better than minimum wage for those who are working 2 or more jobs trying to make ends meet.

Any job coming to Rock County right now is a good job. Cities all around the USA are fighting to bring companies in and so far this fall Rock County has been getting our share despite the negitivity by some. Good job Beloit....

"TWELVE BUCKS AN HOUR!!!!!!! YEE-HAW!!!!!
Yea. We should, like you know, like, make them pay people more. Maybe like $30/hour. Then we should like make them hire more people than they plan on since lots of people need jobs. Then we should make them promise to never leave even if they can't make money here. If they do, we should like take their CEO's house and like make him pay all the people that need work but get laid off and beat up his kids.
Of course thats after we make them open here and create those 90 jobs in the first place.

This was a post by "unknown" just recently. For you people that think it was an attack, or can't figure out why I wanted to let unknown know that some jobs were in the area.

Janesvillean - you are the pot calling the kettle black. You want to see an attack on somebody that has not posted? Read on:
I think he was big enough of a horse's a** to last another eight years. (And his public service extended into the Bush administration, where he screwed more things up.)
Recognize that? That comment was you attacking Tommy Thompson. I don't recall him on any of the posts yesterday.

localboy, there is no call for attacking another poster in a thread in which they have not posted.
.
stevev, you are right in that Beloit has recovered solidly (with the help of Ken Hendricks) from the closure of Beloit Corp., but Janesville is also attracting new businesses. The real question before us is weathering the 2009 economy.

Here's hoping the new city manager can grab my ole hometown by the short hairs and remake the community in less time that it took Kenosha to get past AMC/Chrysler. But it is unlikely anything other than talk talk will occur.

Why does it seem that Beloit is weathering this economic downturn so much better than Janesville? There have been numerous companies that have built or expanded operations in Beloit over the past few years, while everything in Janesville seems to be closing down.
