Wrongful death lawsuit filed in Crandon shooting
CRANDON, Wis. (AP) The lone survivor and parents of four young people killed in a shooting rampage by an off-duty deputy have filed a wrongful death lawsuit seeking millions of dollars.
Forest County Deputy Sheriff Tyler Peterson killed his one-time girlfriend and five others on October 7, 2007, before killing himself.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Forest County Circuit Court names Crandon Police Chief John Dennee, Forest County Sheriff Keith Van Cleve and their insurance companies as defendants. The plaintiffs include the lone survivor, Charlie Neitzel.
Crandon and Forest County earlier denied claims from Neitzel and the families seeking more than $5 million in damages. That opened the door for the civil lawsuit.
The lawsuit claims authorities knew Peterson had a history of violence and wrongly gave him access to weapons.

Bubs, thanks for responding. I thought maybe it was that too, but isn't that when the "this comment has been removed..." shows up?

Trojan,
I'm guessing that someone violated the User Policy Agreement and had their post removed.

I once worked with Tyler while he was going through school. He was nice and a very quiet person. We were just shocked because we couldn't imagine him doing this. I'm not a "sue" person, I don't think it will do anything in this case.

Once again, people blaming it on the guns and not the people behind the guns. Never seems to amaze me. Nobody is accountable for their actions. Let's blame the NRA and everyone else. Come on people.

You would probably be surprized to know that a lot of the police offiers have mental problems in most cities. I'm sorry that these families lost their loved ones. Good luck because I don't think this will go very far. If someone wants to get a weapon, they don't have to go very far to get one. Yeah NRA.

I think/hope this wrongful death suit will make those in charge really think before they hire someone. There has to be background checks, etc in a case like this. Although, a background check for this young man, would most likely have turned up nothing. I'm not sure all the money in the world will give these families closure, but it should definitely help with costs accrued and to make a statement.

Why does it say 3 comments but I only see two? I've noticed this before. Does anyone know why it does that?
