Report: Black unemployment in Milwaukee increases
MILWAUKEE (AP) Milwaukee has the second highest rate of unemployment among black males, and the nation's largest employment gap between black and white men.
That's according to a new report from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Center for Economic Development.
The center says unemployment among black men rose from 46.8 percent in 2006 to 51.1 percent last year. The report's author Marc Levine says that may be the highest rate ever.
Only Buffalo, New York, had a higher rate of black male joblessness among 35 metro areas studied.
In comparison, unemployment among white males in Milwaukee was the nation's third lowest at 18.6 percent.
The study classified anyone not working as jobless. The official unemployment rate includes only people actively seeking work and is lower.

When's the last time any of you have been to Milwaukee?? I was just there recently. Just look around, go into some of the businesses. Half of the time you can't even understand what they say, why would they get hired? It's like someone else said, only 50% of blacks graduating, what else will they do. A lot of them have the "do for me" or
'you owe me" mentality. They need to break the cycle and be responsible for their lives. Now, I didn't say ALL blacks feel that way. They just need to take responsibility for themselves just like everyone else.

With Milwaukee public schools graduating less then 50% of blacks is this any wonder? We must improve our schools. Why would anyone hire someone without an education if you had a choice.

I think it's totally unfair that 51.1% of black men in Milwaukee don't have to work, but 81.4% of white men do. Where's the justice?
