JANESVILLE – The Janesville public schools superintendent, Tom Evert, will retire at the end of the school year. School Board President DuWayne Severson made the announcement at a press conference this afternoon.

The school board will discuss how they will replace Evert on Tuesday night, at meetings of the personnel committee and full board meetings.

Severson said his goal is to name a new superintendent by March 2009.

Evert said in his retirement letter that he will serve through June. He has served as superintendent for over 13 years. He is 61.

Evert indicated many months ago that he was considering his retirement options. His current contract runs out June 30, 2009, Severson said.

seichman - yea probably where yours is now. IT was about his power and control over women. You obviously wouldn't know that. There are two sides to Tom Evert. The behind closed doors nasty side and the sweet public side.

Janesville has had a good school system but questions always need to be asked and a new set of eyes may be helpful. Recently a local paper carried a profile on the Janesville School Sytem "social worker for older parents". What?! - is that a federal mandate, state mandate, union mandate? We have gotten carried away with administration in Wisconsin. Iowa does administartion 50% cheaper and Minnesota 25& cheaper. We need transparancy and a public accounting of why our school system has twice the number of employees and 15 years ago - it isn't due to increasing enrollment.

Ealing,

If you believe what you posted, you must have had your head some place where it didn't belong every day.

Every day without Tom Evert is a good day. If you don't believe this you have never worked for him!!

Best of luck to you, Mr. Evert. I appreciate the help you gave me over the years. Thank you.

Best wishes, Tom, but what a loss for Janesville! I don't blame him, with the nit-picking, micro-managing of some of the current school board members and silence of the others. Too bad such a delicate decision will be left to THIS board.
