Juvenile scares burglars with BB gun in Madison
MADISON, Wis. (AP) Madison police say a juvenile scared away two burglars — with a BB gun.
Police say a male juvenile shot the BB gun at two males who tried to enter his house at about 8:20 p.m. Thursday, possibly hitting one in the shoulder.
The two ran away and the boy alerted his sister and father. The father then called police.

Armyof3, even if the burglar is killed by the homeowner/resident in TX its legal. Quite honestly if you HAVE to shoot someone, you shoot to kill.
Archer is probably right. If they DO find these two morons, Czar Chiseldrip will probably do all he could to prosecute the kid for discharging a firearm within Madison city limits.
Laws should be if you break into anything, you (and your surviving family if the owner offs ya) can never sue for any injuries or whatnot.

I don't believe his age is listed anywhere... perhaps I overlooked it... but WOW! How terrifying to be confronted by strangers in the safety and comfort of one's home... I pray he will be able to find contentment at home after this.. I would be willing to bet these jerks won't come back! Hopefully, Daddy has a bigger gun and will be able to protect his family should the morons think they want to try it again!
Then again, the little guy did a "bang" up job, in my opinion!

Way to go, kid! You showed your true character --- fearless, quick-thinker, and willing to do what it takes to get the job done. I'm afraid that I would have hid and not been able to even get out a peep, much less a scream. You and your BB gun roared!!!!

I know if it was our house my kid would of used her 410 shotgun...who knows what other intentsions those thugs would have had in mind...maybe rape or killing the family???

If they were dumb or high enough to break in when the family was home one can only wonder what else they would do.

The boy reacted in a fast situation how he felt best. He felt threatened, as he should. Someone was in his home. Everyone reacts different and some people aren't afraid to stand up to pieces of crap like that.

Northman (& others),
While you are correct, that things could have gone worse had this boy not had a BB gun, perhaps the family would have been just out of a TV and a couple other valuables. TheKid is suggesting that had one or more of these burglars had something more powerful than a BB gun, we could have ended up in a much different situation. Would you be praising this kid if he and his family had been killed by a couple of idiots who just wanted to steal some things and wanted to get back at the kid for shooting them with BBs?
This could have gone several different ways. I don't see it as a great story that supports the idea that we should all have BB guns or more in our homes nor as a story that suggests that gun control is a good thing because it might be the reason that the burglars didn't have guns of their own. It's a story that happened to end happily, thankfully.

As far as I'm concerned, the legality of shooting a gun is worthless in this situation. The kid acted quick and knew that he needed to do something quick to save his home, his life, his sister and his father. How many kids would think to shoot them with a BB gun? So, who cares about the legal issue, the kid just proved himself worthy of being an adult. In fact, even though he's not my kid, I'm proud of him for thinking that quick in the right situation with the right action. He didn't kill anyone, just hurt the burglars. How easy is that going to be when someone shows up at the doctor or ER with a BB gun bullet in them or an infection from having it removed in an unsterile location? Super easy! Hinges on going to the "Dumb Criminals" show!

My five year old is pretty damn accurate with a BB gun already. We all grew up with hunting in my family and respect guns and what they're intended for. However, I would have no problem using one to defend my home from some loser.

I'm with you kid, fortunately for this kid the thieves didn't come equiped with a real gun of their own.

I don't think a 200 grain hollow point is a good idea. Think of the neighbors, and where the bullet will end up. Use a shotgun instead with small #1 buckshot.

kid:
You make a good point (in the corrected version). But things might have been a lot worse if the boy didn’t have the BB gun. You’ve got a couple nimrods here who were too stupid, or too high, to case the house and see if anybody was there before they broke in. Either way, you need to consider them to be extremely dangerous. Once they entered, there weren’t a lot of scenarios for a happy ending, and a lot of different degrees of tragedy waiting in the wings. It’s just too bad somebody didn’t get an eye put out this time.

Too bad it wasn't about a 200 grain hollow point instead of a BB. People who choose to break the law should have to fear being eliminated by those choices. But in Madison, the kid will probably be charged with something if the burglar is found.

Good, hope they come back and this time the kid has a 12 guage instead of a BB gun. They won't come back again after that.

Burglars are not that smart for revenge.
If they did return, I would greet them with something a little bigger (Glock 17s) than a Red Ryder BB gun, but the little guy has to start somewhere.
It is your right to protect what you have accumulated through productivity and hard work. Don't give it up to somebody who wants to take it the easy way and illegally.

way to go!! times like this back what Texas has in place for legality... anyone that catches a person breaking into their residence has the right to shoot the person... so long as the person breaking in isn't killed, it's legal... why not make it legal in here in WI??
