United Way planning for less money
Programs supported by the United Way of North Rock County will get $245,718 less in 2009. The United Way board voted unanimously Wednesday morning to cut 25 percent from funding to programs and 50 percent from special grants for agency contingencies, community initiatives and venture start-up.
The 25 percent across-the-board cuts recommended by the Resource Distribution Committee will total $238,218, impacting 80 programs administered by 38 United Way partner agencies.
The 50 percent reduction will total $7,500.
The reductions come on top of $33,350 in cutbacks announced in May for the last half of 2008.

Are they planning on reducing any of their overhead costs? From their own website, "Our 2007 overhead is 15.8% (3 year average)" Isn't that almost 16 cents for every dollar given? They take their percent, and what is given to the next organization, they again take off their overhead.

Instead of sending money out of state, leave it here in Rock County. Their tax form for 2006 is interesting reading, seeing where exactly all the money people give is going. Fund raising is pretty high, in 2006 it was almost as much as they are not giving out for 2009.

While fund raising raises funds, couldn't some of the items be donated for that, for the better of the community.

you got it 6824 - Dozens of United Way CEOs across the country are making $200k+. Sorry, but in my opinion, your charible dollars in Janesville are put to much better use at ECHO, House of Mercy, etc.

I'm sorry that United Way wont be getting as much revenue this year, but the lose of jobs, people HAVE to take care of #1 first. Hard times are just beginning,we'll have to tighten our belts another notch or two!
