Albion shooting suspect held on $5,000 cash bail

By Cathy Idzerda ( Contact )   October 3, 2008 - 8:18 p.m.

Cash bail of $5,000 was set today for Cortez Tucker, 18, of Janesville, the man who allegedly fired several shots during a robbery gone bad in Albion Wednesday, according to the Capital Times.

No one was injured in the shooting, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Five people were arrested on a charge of party to an armed robbery in connection with the incident:

-- Jacklyn J. Butson, 17, of 380 Indian Lane, Edgerton.

-- Patrick D. Butler, 20, of 624 Prairie Ave., Janesville.

-- Justin D. Paysen, 19, of 17 N. Water St., Evansville.

-- Christopher J. Crownover, 20, of 1335 Laramie Lane, No. 5, Janesville.

--Anna M. Fern, 17, Edgerton.

Tucker was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and recklessly endangering safety.

Those involved with the incident told police their plan was to set up a phony marijuana deal and then rob Kincade.

Butson, Crownover, and Paysen, 19, were released on signature bonds on Friday.

Fern was being temporarily held on cash bail while it was determined where she would go.

Tucker remained in jail. No bail hearing was held for Butler because he had an arrest warrant from Rock County.

The group will be in court again next week.

By having a GUN,doesn't that mean, that if needed,MURDER WILL happen,if needed?? If a person is just going to rob some one, they ask for the money,no intimidation like a gun. When you bring a weapon, doesn't that mean that you have the intent to KILL,if necessary??

Keep in mind the charges are party to armed robbery and reckless endangerment -- not even attempted homicide. This was a premeditated robbery, but that's still not the same thing. It's possible that the hearing next week will increase the charges.

5,000 Bucks; That doesn't surprise me. It's ALWAYS been that way in this town, they Will make bail money LOW,get out,go do something again to try and get money for the lawyer. Now isn't this kinda like premeditated robbery? Now the guy that did that to get his wife & her boyfriend killed, got his bail REALY HIGH. Boggles ME,don't they have a standard for premeditated killing?????

Fern is a big problem in Edgerton. She has a history of robbing drunk people coming out of bars downtown Edgerton. She beat one up pretty bad. When charges were pressed the next day,(after vic sobered up) she couldn't get charges to stick becuase of time lapse. I know becuase this was my neice. Big problems in little town..

wwr1961: I hope you are kidding about thinking this was a set up. I don't get all you people who think the police have nothing better to do with their time. There are many STUPID young people out there and it's possible you have just read about a group of them. If you were joking about a set up, I guess I didn't get it. Sorry.

Maybe Kincade is an informant and they used him as a decoy to lure these idiots to Albion. Got to love it when law enforcement is in the business of selling narcotics to morons so we can put pot smokers in jail!!! If they were to use little girls for bait in pedophile stings, maybe we could keep the real criminals behind bars forever!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yea, that would be unethical. And NO I DONT CONDONE USING LITTLE GIRLS. Think about the analogy. We are filling up our jails with pot smokers and allowing pedophiles to walk the street. Pedophiles by their own admission can not be rehabilitated. They should never see the outside again, ever. These are the real criminals.

I must be lost. All these individuals set up this phony deal to rob "Kincade". Is this a person or a place. I see no other mention of this name in the article. Yep, I'm definitely lost. Oh, and I completely agree of the only $5,000.00 comment. That's ludicrous.
