Downtown Janesville will soon have more parking
From the WCLO newsroom:
It might soon be easier to find parking in downtown Janesville after the demolition of 121 East Court Street.
City Development Specialist Al Hulick says the majority of the prep work is done for the demolition of the city-owned building. He says the sewer, water and utilities are disconnected, and an outside firm has conducted an asbestos evaluation.
Demolition is scheduled for early November to early December, depending on how long it takes for the asbestos results to come back and the abatement process.

janesvillean, Yes - at one time it was a church... and in each apartment is a gorgeous marble fireplace. It has over the years been lived in by so many people and has suffered much damage from being an apartment building. Point being that there isn't much left of the inside to rehabilitate and parking really is a greater need for our downtown area. (Once upon a time - above Rock County Appliance was a church also.)

I am seriously tired of people complaining about Janesville spending money. If you want to live in a place that never expands then go to one. The parking expansion is much needed due to the popularity of the bar scene on the weekends and the fact that many of the spaces down there are Leased and can result in a ticket.

It's too bad it fell into such dilapidated condition. At one time, if I am correct, this was the Unitarian Church, and the pastor was Jenkin Lloyd Jones.

My mom worked downtown back in the 70's and 80's. The banks "managed" many of the downtown buildings which were in long-term trust funds and she noted the consistent neglect and lack of maintenance of the properties. She predicted that one day the bank buildings would be standing alone in a sea of parking lots.

One life, it's down hill one way! Why are you moaning and groaning about it? I can understand if you're physically handicapped. Or are you just lazy?

This is actually the large building at the corner of Court Street and Parker Drive (right across from WCLO and the Court House). It is a dilapidated apartment building that has been in need of coming down for years.
Andy BTW.... I don't understand the negativity towards Janesville... If you can't be proud of your hometown, perhaps its time to move onto what you find as "greater things".

Warm, You really must have a poor self-esteem! Making negative comments about people or things is perhaps your way of building yourself up. Maybe you ought to run to be on the city board so you can make sure they do things the way YOU think things should be done! And then WE could criticize your ideas!

This building is not on Main Street; it is on the corner of Court Street and South Parker Drive. The city announced the acquisition of this property several months ago with the stated purpose of demolishing the building to provide more parking.

Oh my God. Here we go with the negative comments about Janesville again. Do you people just sit at the computer and wait for stories to come up so you can immediately go on the defense and start attacking everything? It amazes me.
