Winter storm warning update
Gas for the snow blower. Check.
Long johns clean and washed. Check. Matching—or almost matching— mittens. Check.
Now you’re ready for the 6 inches to 10 inches of snow that’s on its way.
The National Weather Service in Sullivan has updated its winter storm warning for Rock County and the surrounding areas.
Snow totals were previously expected range between 3 inches and 5 inches. Under the current forecast, snow will start around noon today and accumulations of 6 inches to 10 inches are expected by Monday morning.
North to northeast winds gusting at times to 35 mph will add to the mess, leading to areas of blowing and drifting snow and possibly back strain.
Today is major travel day for the Thanksgiving holiday, and forecasters are recommending people who have to travel get on the road as soon as possible.

shamesville, get a clue before you spew nonsense about the NWS. First, they have nothing to do with the news media. Second, they ONLY issue a winter storm warning when one or more of the following weather events are expected to occur within 12 hours:
.
more than 6” of snow (or 8” <= 24 hrs) - freezing rain (< ¼ inch and while accompanied by another event) ... sleet accumulations of 2 inches or more ... intermittent blowing snow reducing visibilities to <½ mile & winds 25-34 mph, or closed roads ... forecaster discretion example: <= 6” of snow with sustained winds/frequent gusts of 25-34mph.

The first snow real sticking snow of the year is so festively beautiful when you don't have to drive too far for work. But by January, I would be happy to see it just all go away! blah! :)

I'll be interested to see what happens on the Interstate, between the Stateline and Madison by tomorrow morning. With the additional paved cut-throughs, between the east/west bound lanes, they recently put in... we'll see if they are ahead of the accumulations enough to make the investment worth while.
If they (D.O.T.) are actually able to use the cut-throughs to turn traffic around and clear the Interstate, will they do it in time? They have added a salt depot in the old west bound weigh station near Cty N... Hopefully this will be enough to keep that 6-7 mile stretch from Cty N to Hwy 51 near Coachman's open. I think this is the most treacherous local area on the Interstate for blowing snow and sheet ice due to the open areas of flat fields on both sides of the Interstate.
There is an electronic sign (one at least, that I've seen...) on the East bound side, on the overpass at 12/18, to close the Interstate. If the weather gets really bad, with the holiday traffic, while they close the Interstate?
I'd hate to see a repeat of last year!

we have our own plow company, as much as i'd LOVE to spend time with my husband who's always busy or hunting right now, the $ would be nice too!
I feel bad for some of the people that cant afford their plowing bills this year, in this economy!
