MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Governor Jim Doyle is scheduled to discuss the economy next week with President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden.

The meetings will be Monday and Tuesday in Philadelphia, where governors from across the country will convene with the incoming administration.

Doyle has scheduled a conference call Tuesday afternoon with reporters to discuss what he says are the unique challenges facing states during this economic crisis.

Doyle was one of Obama’s earliest backers during the presidential campaign. There had been speculation that Obama would offer his fellow Democrat a position in his administration but a governor spokesman said earlier this month Doyle isn’t seeking such a position and is focused on being governor.

On a side note, Wisconsin legislators and the governor will be considering a broad range of new moneymakers for our state:

Doyle is going to Philadelphia along with about 40 other governors. It's a bipartisan summit focused on the economy's impact on states. The goal is a coordinated response to the crisis. There is little question that there will be help coming, the issue is how it will be spent.

I'm not sure what story the commenters before me were reading, but it wasn't this one.
.
Also, government spending is actually a good thing during recessions. It's called Keynesian economics, and it has been generally practiced by most Western governments since WWII, despite continued influence of other approaches.

I like the way the reporter of this story (obviously supporting Obama and Doyle) opens up the story when an inference that Doyle will have a private audience with the new messiah. Instead it will be at least 49 other people wanting their share of the bail-out pie, too.

I wonder what kind of no-strings-attached "free" Federal assistance Doyle will ask for in exchange for his totally unrelated support of Obama's changes?

When will they realize that borrowing our way out of debt won't work?
